Job Description

Akicita Federal is hiring Registered Nurses to deliver direct, high-acuity primary and specialty care to veterans served by the Dayton VA Medical Center in Dayton, OH. In this role, you will spend the vast majority of your time at the bedside — assessing patients, driving care plans, and making real-time clinical decisions that directly improve veteran health outcomes. If you thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment where your independent judgment and technical skills matter every day, this is your opportunity.

- Perform critical care nursing for ICU patients and fulfill scrub and circulating duties in the Emergency Department and Operating Room as assigned.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, formulate individualized nursing care plans, and document all clinical interventions directly into the electronic medical record.
- Administer prescribed medications and IV therapies, monitor patient responses, and maintain comprehensive knowledge of emergency medications stored on the crash cart.
- Interpret cardiac rhythms, recognize clinical implications, and initiate appropriate life-saving measures — including in the absence of an on-site physician.
- Operate complex technical equipment including defibrillators, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors; perform central line and ventilator care in compliance with facility policies.
- Conduct skin assessments and implement nursing interventions to prevent hospital-acquired pressure ulcers; accurately record patient intake and output each shift.
- Educate patients and families on medications, therapies, and procedures; actively participate in interdisciplinary discharge planning and log any patient safety incidents within required timeframes.
What sets candidates apart:

- Prior experience in a VA or other federal healthcare setting, with familiarity with Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) or similar VA electronic health record platforms.
- Background spanning multiple care environments — ICU, Emergency Department, and/or Operating Room — demonstrating versatility across high-acuity settings.
- Experience with ventilator management and central line care in compliance with evidence-based hospital protocols.
- Demonstrated comfort leading or contributing to interdisciplinary care conferences and patient discharge planning teams.
- History of serving veteran or military-affiliated patient populations and an understanding of the unique health needs of this community.

About Akicita Federal

Akicita Cyber LLC dba Akicita Federal

At Akicita Federal, we specialize in supporting efforts related to National Security and Homeland Security. We provide a wide range of services and solutions that aid in protecting the country from potential threats and ensuring the safety of its citizens. Our services include intelligence gathering and analysis, border security, cybersecurity, emergency management and response, medical support, and other critical functions.

We are part of a large group of Tiospaye (extended families) within the Tetonwan (Lakota) Nation who identify as Sicangu (burnt thighs). Long ago the Sicangu divided into the Kul Wicasa Oyate (lower people) and the Heyata Wicasa Oyate (uplands people). Our Kul Wicasa ancestors favored lands where the Maka Izita Ska (White River) empties into the Mni Sose (Missouri River), while the Heyata Wicasa lived higher up towards the Paha Sapa (Black Hills). In the 18th century, when French traders began to interact with our people, they translated our Sicangu name into French and began calling us the Brûlées. This is how we eventually became known as the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.
