Job Description

Kalano Flexible Aged Care Service is seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality, culturally safe care to First Nations elders.

As a National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care (NATSIFAC) funded service, Kalano provides care for up to 18 permanent residents and two respite residents from the Katherine region. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference by supporting elders to live with dignity, respect, and connection to culture.

As the Registered Nurse on shift, you will provide person-centred, low to medium–level clinical care, lead and support care staff, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to create a safe, welcoming, and culturally appropriate environment for residents.

Your leadership, clinical expertise, and understanding of the unique needs of First Nations communities will be central to ensuring exceptional care outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide person‑centred, culturally respectful nursing care, including medication management, wound care, health monitoring, and daily living support.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and review individual care in collaboration with residents and/or their representatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and respond to changes in residents’ health or wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate, compliant clinical documentation in line with Aged Care Quality Standards and organisational policies.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and support the training and orientation of care staff.

Salary and Conditions:

Employment Type: Fulltime and Parttime positions available

Annual Salary: from $85,000.50 Per Anum (pro rata) - depending on experience

Location: Kalano Flexible Aged Care - Lot 508 McKeddie Road, Katherine, NT

Hours of work: Up to 37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day [7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:30pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am]

Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor of Nursing (minimum qualification) or Equivalent accredited qualification that is recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Demonstrated Nursing experience
  • Demonstrated experience in aged care, including low to medium‑level clinical care.
  • Strong clinical skills in medication management, wound care, assessments, and care planning.
  • Experience delivering person‑centred care and supporting shared and informed decision‑making.
  • Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully with First Nations elders, families, and community representatives.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and provide clinical leadership when required.
  • Sound knowledge of Aged Care Quality Standards, documentation requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • High level of organisational skills, including accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Commitment to cultural safety, continuous quality improvement, and ongoing professional development.

Mandatory before commencement:

  • Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registered Nurse.
  • Valid NT Drivers Licence
  • Valid NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • National Police Check
  • Influenza vaccinated.
