RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providesfor nursing care in accordancewith established policy, physician’sorders, theresident planof care, andwithin thescopeof practice ofa RN.Utilizes sound nursingpractice principles toensure deliveryof excellentnursing and personal care inthe assignedhome area(s).·Ensures a timelyand accessible admission forthe residents including a comprehensiveorientationto the home and the servicesoffered within the home.

·Ensures that resident transfers and dischargesare timely and safe.

·Ensures the supply, controland safekeepingof drugsand narcotics, ensures protocols are followedonall assigned shifts.

·Responsiblefor assessing,planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to meet thephysical, psychological,emotional, spiritual,cultural andsocial needsof the residents.

·Respondstoall emergencies immediately;actsas theemergencymanager untilrelieved bythe ADOC,DOCor Executive Director.

·Collaborateswith the interprofessional teamincludingmedicalteam members, clinicalspecialists,and consultantsin supportof effective clinical careforall residents.

·Participates in in-services and educationof nursing team membersand other departmentsas required.

·Actsasa rolemodel for nursing team membersperforming withinthe professionalguidelines of Collegeof Nursesin the applicable provinceand in accordancewith relevantprovincial legislation requirements.

·Directsthe plan ofcarein collaboration with the interprofessional teamtoeffectivelymanagethe residentswith complexand changing resident care needs.

·Provideseffective guidanceand leadership fornurses( RPNs,LPNs)andthe carestaff.

·Reinforces andworks towards achieving goals and objectivesestablished by the Directorof Care and themultidisciplinarycare team.

·Providesappropriate and timely reportstotheDirector of Care.

·Coordinationof activitiesnecessary to operatethe resident homearea economically and efficiently andin compliance with applicable legislation.

·Contributestothe developmentand implementationof policies and procedures that support the operational needs of thecare community.

·Performsother duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

·Bachelorof Science – Nursing (BScN),Bachelorof Nursing (BN),or equivalent.

·Current registration as a Registered Nursewith the Collegeof Nursesof Ontario.Applicableto Ontario applicants.

·Current registration with the BC Collegeof Nursing Professionals.Applicableto BritishColumbiaapplicants.

·Current Basic CardiacLife Support (BCLS) certification.

·Minimum of two years related clinicalexperience(experiencein rehabilitationor longtermcare nursing preferred).

·Successful annual completion ofRAIMDS certification as perMinistryof Healthrequirements for AIS.

·Current AIS Certification

·Sound knowledgeand background in geriatric, rehabilitationor long-term care nursingincluding activation, activity programs,nursing and personnel administration.

·Knowledgeablewith respecttothe nursing process, developmentsand currenttrends in the geriatric care field.

·Knowledgeof therequirementsof theNursing HomesActand Regulations,the appropriatesectionsof theHealthDisciplines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act,Food& Drug Act andotherpertinent Federal,Provincial and Municipal Statuteswhich influence the operationofthe home andmore specificallythe nursingdepartment.
