Diversity, equality, and inclusion

At Action for Children, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. We actively encourage applications from Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic, and disabled candidates as they are under-represented within Action for Children. We want to take deliberate and purposeful action to ensure equal opportunity for all groups in society and for Action for Children.

Male staff are under-represented within our Children Service roles. We would like to encourage more male applicants for our Children Service roles.

We are one of the largest children’s charities in the UK and have been making a difference to the lives of the UK’s vulnerable children for over 150 years.

A bit about the role

This is an exciting 12-month fixed term opportunity for an established Registered Manager, or an experienced Deputy Manager ready to take the next step in their career, to lead one of our children's disability homes.

As the Registered Manager, the homes registration will be held in your name, and you'll be responsible for ensuring the service remains fully compliant with all regulatory and legislative requirements, maintaining high standards of governance, quality and care. Working alongside an experienced Home Manager who is already established within the service, you'll benefit from their day-to-day operational lead and support, allowing you to focus on strategic oversight, compliance and continuous improvement.

This is a collaborative leadership role where you'll work together to achieve the very best outcomes for our young people.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Some key responsibilities of your role as a Registered Manager (Ofsted) will be.

  • Lead and oversee a long stay children's home for children and young people with learning and physical disabilities, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
  • Recruit, induct, and develop a skilled, motivated, and cohesive staff team.
  • Provide high quality, supportive 1 to 1 supervision and reflective guidance to your direct reports, fostering professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with families, community organisations, partner agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Build effective networks and partnerships to support the well-being, development, and opportunities for children and young people.
  • Ensure the home operates in line with Ofsted standards, delivering consistently high-quality care through effective leadership, management and oversight.
  • Champion a culture of person-centred care, inclusion, and continuous improvement, inspiring your team to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

Let's talk about you.

Whilst a management qualification Level 5 would be great, we are open to those with experience in a management role within a residential/social care setting.

  • You have at least two years’ experience in the last five years working in a role relevant to residential childcare.
  • You have at least one year of experience in an early leadership role, demonstrating your ability to guide and support a team.
  • You have a strong commitment to creating an inclusive service that meets the diverse needs of children and young people.
  • You’re able to establish and maintain a workforce that promotes an inclusive, positive, and supportive environment.
  • You have knowledge and understanding of Ofsted requirements in the Children's Home (England) regulations 2015.
  • You have relevant experience working directly with children and young people in a residential care setting.
  • You possess strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a team.

A bit about the service

We’re proud to introduce our beautiful new children's home in the heart of Chesterfield, created to provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for up to four children and young people with learning and physical disabilities.

This is an incredibly exciting time for our team as we've recently welcomed our first child into the home. As our Registered Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the culture, building a high performing team and seeing the standards of care, compassion and excellence that will define the home for years to come.

You’ll help lay the foundations for the future as you prepare the home to welcome the next three children, creating a place where every child feels safe, valued and able to thrive.
