Echocardiograph(Echo)Technicians arean extremely specifickind of diagnostic medical sonographer dealing with the heart. EchoTechnicians use ultrasound devices and other imaging tools that use sound waves to create images of the heart. They inspect the chambers and walls of the heart as well as the valves. An echocardiogram can be administered externally on a patient's chest but can also be conducted by placing a tube down a patient's esophagus to get closer to the heart internallyBy joining the Indian River team as a Registered Echo Technician, you will oversee the quality assessment not only of the equipment but also our caregivers, which in turn helps aid to apositivepatient experience.This role will provide you with plenty of hands-on learning and can act as a steppingstone to other careers within the field at Cleveland Clinic.
A PRN caregiver in this position works varying daysfrom730AM – 4:00PM,withon-call requirements
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform echocardiograms, stresstests, stressechoesand Dobutamine stressecho
Assistcardiologist with transesophageal echocardiograms.
Consult withcardiologistsforinterpretation of testresults.
Maintain records oftestingdocumentation.
Provide daily account ofpatient'scharge requisition withappropriate ICD9codes.
Provide training and acts as a resource for echocardiogram students,residentsand physicians.
Provide testing for add-on emergency patients.
Alwaysmaintaincomplete and up-to-date documentation and files, including products and service quotes.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduatefroma two-yearCardiovascularTechnologistprogram
RegisteredDiagnosticCardiac Sonographer (RDCS)registry status from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)ORRegistered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families,physiciansandothercaregivers
Ability to empathize with patients and families
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Fiveyears of experience in echo and vascularultrasound
Physical Requirements:
Interact with patients, families, physicians and other health care workers.
Good hand coordination for positioning of probe and equipment.
Good vision to analyze computer screens and VCR recordings to diagnose test results.
Use good judgment in stressful emergency situations.
Adequate mathematics skills to maintain accurate record and report.
Physical Duties: Moderate lifting and positioning of patients.
Moderate pushing and pulling of equipment.
Working Conditions: 100% air-conditioned.
Moderate risk of exposure to blood or air-borne pathogens
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
