As an active member of a multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Be responsible to provide coverage on all adult medicine, surgery and renal inpatient units at CVH during the unit dietitians’ vacation or absence, or as needed.

  • Be responsible for the delivery of evidenced-based, equitable and patient-centered medical nutrition therapy to general medicine and renal patients of a diverse population

  • Work collaboratively with the inter-professional team

  • Provide quality nutrition care in relation to the patient's diagnosis, treatment plan, age, and nutrition status in a fast paced inpatient setting

  • Provide screening and assessment, contribute to care plan development, establish goal oriented treatment interventions, patient/family education and provide support to address nutritional needs

  • Prioritize patient caseload based on hospital standards

  • Provide patient-centered education to patients and their family members

  • Act as a coach/mentor/consultant using sound critical thinking skills to achieve patient outcomes.

  • Act as a preceptor for dietetic interns and other learners as required

  • Participate in interprofessional patient care teams

  • Complete daily workload statistics

  • Must have availability to work during summer and peak holiday vacation times

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and a Dietetic Internship, or Master's or Diploma practicum program

  • Registered Dietitian with current registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario required

  • Completion of Dietitians of Canada Critical Care Nutrition Therapy course preferred

  • Established clinical skills in nutritional management of medical and complex patients

  • Experienced in the management of enteral and parenteral nutrition support

  • Reliable, flexible, creative, self-directed professional, able to work effectively and collaboratively within a high paced team environment

  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize practice based research to ensure excellence in the provision of nutritional care.

  • Proficiency in computer Microsoft 365 and hospital information system – Epic (preferred).

  • Two years recent experience with established clinical skills in an inpatient acute care setting
