Job Description

Performs CT imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as Instructed.

Responsibilities

• Maintains equipment for proper diagnostic imaging.

• Maintains equipment through daily cleaning.

• Identifies and reports system problems to service engineers.

• Sets up and adjusts equipment based on examination requirements.

• Calibrates equipment and selects appropriate controls for slice thickness and bed increments.

• Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.

• Explains procedures to patients and prepares them for examinations.

• Assists with and administers contrast agents and other chemical substances to enhance imaging studies.

• Utilizes Isovue 300 by 100 ml for contrast head examinations.

• Utilizes Isovue 300 by 150 ml for chest, abdomen, and pelvis contrast examinations.

• Mixes oral contrast media prior to administration.

• Performs IV access using sterile technique for contrast administration.

• Reviews patient charts, physician orders, and examination requests to ensure appropriate imaging procedures are performed.

• Collaborates with radiologists to ensure optimal diagnostic results.

• Communicates with patient care units to ensure timely transport and completion of examinations.

• Performs quality control checks on all images to ensure diagnostic quality.

• Maintains inventory of contrast materials, IV supplies, and paper products.

• Adheres to safety regulations to ensure patient and employee safety.

• Participates in training department personnel and students in CT imaging procedures.

• Maintains on-call availability as required.

• Reports to the hospital within forty-five (45) minutes when called in.

• Carries assigned communication devices while on call.

• Notifies hospital personnel of circumstances that may affect availability.

• Utilizes photo phone technology to transmit images to the on-call radiologist.

• Applies extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain maximum diagnostic images.

• Reviews examination requests and follows established imaging guidelines.

• Properly positions patients to obtain optimal diagnostic information.

• Attends all required safety training programs and demonstrates knowledge of department and hospital safety requirements.

• Operates assigned equipment and performs procedures in a safe manner.

• Maintains work areas and equipment according to department standards.

• Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all job functions.

• Follows hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

• Demonstrates proper use of protective barrier equipment and infection prevention measures.

• Attends annual education programs.

• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.

• Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and effective communication at all times.

• Presents a professional appearance in accordance with department and hospital policy.

• Demonstrates a positive, customer-focused attitude.

• Promotes effective working relationships and teamwork within and across departments.

• Participates in staff meetings and committee activities as assigned.

• Utilizes automated systems for interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication.

• Completes work assignments in a timely manner.

• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate's Degree in Radiology from an approved program required.

Experience

• Up to one (1) year of experience required.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Basic computer skills.

• Knowledge of ALARA guidelines.

• Must be able to meet hospital on-call requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

• Registration by the A.R.R.T. required.

• State licensure required.

• Registered or Registry eligible in CT, with requirement to become CT Registered within eighteen (18) months.

• CPR certification required.
