and Purpose
The Cardiac Sonographer has a working knowledge of adult (ages 18-65), geriatric (ages 66 and over), neonatal (birth to 12 months), and occasionally and adolescent (ages 12-17) echocardiography, where applicable. The Cardiac Sonographer presents a pleasing and helpful manner to the patient, physicians, visitors, members of the department, and all other medical personnel. The Cardiac Sonographer exhibits courteous behavior when addressing the general public and outside hospital related agencies. The Cardiac Sonographer supports and contributes to departmental and hospital objectives by functioning as a technologist in all aspects of echocardiography.

Essential Functions:
• Performs transthoracic echocardiograms (2D, 3D, M Mode, Doppler, Color Flow, Strain)
• Performs stress echocardiograms
• Performs contrast enhanced echocardiograms
• Assists with transesophageal echocardiograms (Depending on facility)
• Performs patient assessment
• Performs quality control
• Performs cardiac stress testing (Depending on facility)
• Performs EKG’s, and places Holter monitors
• Performs equipment cleaning and maintenance
• Provides patient, family, hospital staff, and physician education

Other Functions
• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
• Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Job Description:

Job Requirements
(Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification)

Education:
• Associate Degree in Allied Health or Certificate from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program (required)

Experience:
• 1 year Echocardiography experience or equivalent (required)

Licensure:
• Cardiac Sonographer registry required within six months of employment (ARDMS or CCI) (required)

Certification:
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (required)


Job Competency:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities critical to this role:

• Competency in using and troubleshooting ultrasound equipment

Language Ability:
• Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats

Reasoning Ability:
• Must be able to adjust echo protocol according to echo findings

Computer Skills:
• Must be competent in using the hospital EMR and echo PACS system
