Job Description

Regional Sales Manager at Mercury Hampton Ltd

Regional Sales Manager - Central US

  • Basic to $120,000
  • Bonus c$50,000
  • Chicago, IL
  • Oil and Gas / Utilities / Auto / Aerospace

The instruments you'd be selling are the reason the lights stay on

When a data centre hall draws 40 megawatts without a flicker, when a utility has to prove to a regulator that its network is clean - somebody has already been there with a power quality analyser and a calibration certificate. That somebody trusted their instrument absolutely, because the measurement either holds up or people get hurt, plants go dark, and compliance cases collapse.

This business builds those instruments. Test and measurement and power quality equipment that engineers stake their reputations on, backed by accredited calibration services, sold through a global group with a long-standing engineering pedigree. This is not commodity kit and it is not sold on price.

Which is exactly why this role is harder than most sales jobs you're looking at.

What we're actually asking you to do

Take the US Central region and grow it. You'll be the commercial authority for everything we sell there, and you'll do it two ways at once.

Directly. Hunting and winning strategic key accounts yourself. Standing in front of plant engineers and utility teams, demonstrating the equipment, running the seminars, working the tradeshows, answering the first line of technical questions without phoning a friend.

Through others. You inherit a network of independent sales reps and distribution partners, and "managing" them means something real here: a rolling three-month forecast every month, accountability for end-user activity, and honest evaluations that sometimes end with a recommendation to change or terminate a rep. If you're uncomfortable holding people you don't formally employ to a number, this will be the part that breaks you.

You'll also be our eyes on the market - competitor behaviour, customer requirements, where the strategy needs to bend - and you'll feed that back monthly, with the CRM kept current, not reconstructed the night before a review.

This will suit you if

  • You have 5+ years in technical sales, and ideally in test and measurement, power quality or technical electronics. The technical part is not negotiable: you must be able to demo the range and support it credibly.
  • You've carried a number through both direct business and indirect channels and hit it.
  • You genuinely enjoy the road.
  • You work well with nobody watching. Your manager is a Sales Director who will back you, not hover over you, which means your own planning and organisation are the only thing standing between you and a wasted quarter.
  • You're commercially sharp, you can negotiate, and you'd rather fix a problem than escalate it.
  • An engineering or business degree helps. A track record helps more.

This will not suit you if

You want a warm territory handed over intact. You want to sell on discount. You want to manage reps by sending encouraging emails. You'd rather talk features than understand what the customer is actually trying to measure and why it matters.

What you get

Real autonomy over a large, underexploited territory and the commercial authority to shape it. The backing of a multinational instrumentation group with deep technical resource behind you. Products you can defend on merit to the most sceptical engineer in the room. And a role where the growth curve of an entire region is legitimately traceable to how well you do your job.

Apply with a CV. If you can tell us in a few lines about a territory you grew and a channel relationship you had to fix, that will get our attention faster than anything else. Call Richard York on 0044 1925 937311 or WhatsApp 0044 7772 992516.
