The Regional Occupational Health Physician is the designated Bedrijfsarts (Company Doctor) for LyondellBasell Netherlands. The role provides independent medical judgment, clinical governance, and professional leadership for occupational health services in accordance with applicable professional standards, company policies, and local requirements. You will replace our colleague who will retire soon.

The Regional Occupational Health Physician has overall medical oversight of occupational health activities delivered at Netherlands locations and will supervise, direct, and professionally support Arbo-artsen and other occupational health professionals working under delegated authority. The Regional Occupational Health Manager remains responsible for determining which activities may be delegated, establishing the conditions of delegation, monitoring quality and competency, and retaining appropriate oversight of complex or higher-risk cases.

A Day in the Life

Based primarily in Rotterdam, the Regional Occupational Health Manager will lead the preventive occupational medicine program, advise management on work-related health risks, oversee sickness absence and reintegration activities, and coordinate the delivery of consistent occupational health services across Botlek, Moerdijk, Geleen, and other Netherlands locations as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Serve as the lead Company Doctor for LyondellBasell Netherlands and provide medical leadership for onsite occupational health services;
• Supervise Arbo-artsen and other physicians or health professionals performing delegated occupational health activities;
• Monitor the quality, consistency, and professional competency of delegated services and provide coaching and case consultation;
• Maintain appropriate professional independence and confidentiality in all occupational medical decisions and communications.

Clinical Governance and Medical Leadership

• Establish and maintain clinical protocols, quality standards, and escalation pathways for occupational health services;
• Provide professional supervision and case oversight for Arbo-artsen, Keuringartsen, occupational health nurses, and other health professionals, as applicable;
• Ensure appropriate documentation, clinical review, and follow-up of occupational health assessments and recommendations.

Injury and Illness Management

• Provide timely initial care, within training and competency, for work-related injuries and illnesses;
• Determine when referral or escalation to a higher level of care is required to protect worker health and safety;
• Provide clinical direction and consultation to occupational health staff managing workplace injuries and illnesses.

Health Surveillance and Fitness for Work

• Lead and oversee employee health surveillance, including PAGO, regulatory medical examinations, audiometry, pulmonary testing, pre-placement assessments, and other risk-based programs;
• Make or oversee fitness-for-work determinations using quality, consistent, and cost-effective methods;
• Ensure medical surveillance activities are aligned with identified workplace hazards and employee exposure groups.

Sickness Absence and Return-to-Work Management

• Provide medical leadership for sickness absence, functional capacity, reintegration, and return-to-work processes;
• Supervise Arbo-artsen managing delegated absence and reintegration cases and provide direct oversight for complex files;
• Develop or approve medically appropriate work limitations, modified-duty recommendations, and reintegration plans;
• Collaborate with employees, management, and Human Resources while preserving medical confidentiality and professional independence.

Workplace Risk, Ergonomics, and Prevention

• Assess workplace health risks and advise on measures to prevent occupational illness and injury;
• Collaborate with Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Human Resources, and site leadership to address workplace hazards;
• Support health promotion, preventive health education, and workforce well-being initiatives.

Program, Financial, and Strategic Support

• Advise leadership on occupational health strategy, policy, regulatory matters, and emerging workforce health risks;
• Support annual budget forecasting, clinic operational oversight, vendor management, and cost containment;
• Support the LyondellBasell travel medicine program and provide medical guidance for business travelers as needed.

You Bring This Value

• Medical degree and valid BIG registration;
• Current registration and professional qualification as a Bedrijfsarts, or demonstrated commitment to enroll in or current enrollment in a recognized training program leading to registration as a Bedrijfsarts (Company Doctor);
• Demonstrated experience in occupational medicine, sickness absence management, reintegration, medical surveillance, and fitness-for-work decision-making;
• Experience supervising physicians or other occupational health professionals and overseeing delegated clinical activities;
• Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred;
• Good command of Dutch and English language skills;
• Valid driver's license (Category B);
• Willingness to travel up to 25% among Netherlands locations.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
• Ability to travel between Netherlands facilities and access industrial work environments as required;
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable for Netherlands (NL) payroll offers.

The anticipated salary range for this full-time position is €98,400.00 - €135,300.00. The starting compensation will be determined based on skills, experience and qualifications.
