The salary range for this position is dependent on location and experience level ranging from $140,000-$168,400

This position reports to the Director – Municipal, Community & Business Relations and is a trusted and integral resource to Avangrid’s New York operations. Crucial to this role is the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Equally important is business acumen, expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability and attention to detail. Leadership skills and the ability to balance internal and external priorities are critical to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily activities of a team of Municipal & Community Relations Managers and Business Relations Managers to ensure effective achievement of required responsibilities.

  • Support the development and implementation of strategic plans for municipal, community and business relations that will address all issues necessary to achieve company objectives.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and other subject matter experts within the AVANGRID functional organization as required to deliver a coordinated approach across municipal, community and business stakeholders.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements assigned to this group.

  • Support development of NYSEG and RG&E’s Corporate Contributions and Sponsorships program in collaboration with the AVANGRID Foundation to maximize the benefits of integrated and aligned outreach efforts. Responsible for ensuring the team is effectively executing the annual program plan.

  • Serve in a key role in promoting Avangrid volunteer efforts in New York through the development and implementation of programs that build employee engagement to support the communities served. Effectively manage team to organize New York company sponsored volunteer events to support achievement of Avangrid’s volunteer goals.

  • Serve in a leadership role on the Public Liaison Officer (PLO) team to support emergency response efforts. Provide input to procedures and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the PLO team.

  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to meet company targets.

  • Ensure team is supporting and collaborating with business areas to promote programs and initiatives.

  • Coach and develop team members to grow and develop the skills necessary to be highly effective in the work they do.

  • Hold team members accountable for business and individual goals via performance management, regular feedback and coaching, and role modeling leadership behaviors.

  • Identify and recommend actions that will result in efficiency gains and support implementation of any approved actions.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in customer service, operations and government or community relations.

  • Direct experience interacting with government, business and community leaders.

  • Minimum of 5 years management or supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated success shown by progressively challenging roles.

  • Superior organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-up

  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills

  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and deliver desired results

  • Fortitude to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines; ability to anticipate and/or react to project adjustments and alterations promptly, efficiently, and professionally

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities on an expedited basis

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure environment

  • Team player with the ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing and sometimes stressful environment

  • Experience working in a utility environment with exposure to rates, tariffs and gas and electric distribution systems

  • Must have flexibility to travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
