Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Regional Manager, Business Development based in Canada.

This is a field-focused business development opportunity for a relationship-driven professional who wants to grow a regional mortgage lending portfolio.
You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to mortgage brokers, combining commercial development with strong knowledge of residential lending and credit.
The role involves building high-value partnerships, structuring complex files, and helping brokers navigate products and lending policies.
You’ll work closely with underwriting, risk, and internal teams to create a smooth path from application to funding.
With ownership of regional funding targets, you’ll have a direct influence on territory growth, market share, and the quality of new business.
The environment combines the resources and stability of an established financial organization with the pace and autonomy of a growth-oriented team.
This is an excellent fit for someone who thrives in the field, understands the broker ecosystem, and is motivated by uncapped commercial performance.

Accountabilities:

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with high-performing mortgage brokers across the assigned territory through a proactive and consultative approach.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, helping broker partners understand lending products, credit policies, and the best ways to position files for approval.
  • Develop the regional broker network and proactively identify opportunities to increase market share, funding volume, and quality originations.
  • Provide on-site support, training, troubleshooting, and relationship management to maintain a strong field presence within the broker community.
  • Monitor the application pipeline and collaborate with underwriting, risk, and internal stakeholders to facilitate efficient deal progression and funding.
  • Partner with brokers to structure complex residential mortgage applications and ensure files are appropriately prepared before reaching underwriting.
  • Analyze regional market trends, broker activity, and business opportunities to identify strategies for sustainable territory growth.
  • Take ownership of regional funding targets and consistently deliver against commercial objectives while maintaining strong credit and risk standards.
  • Strengthen collaboration between sales, underwriting, and risk teams to create an efficient and positive experience for broker partners.
  • Represent the organization professionally in the regional market and contribute to broader business development initiatives.
  • Requirements:

    • Strong professional background in residential mortgage underwriting, lending, or credit analysis
    • Demonstrated ability to develop business, grow market share, and proactively identify opportunities rather than simply maintain an existing portfolio.
    • Established network of mortgage brokers and industry relationships within the Calgary Metropolitan Area and Southern Alberta is highly valuable and expected to enable a strong start in the territory.
    • Strong understanding of residential mortgage products, credit requirements, underwriting processes, and lending policies.
    • Consultative relationship-building approach, with a focus on becoming a trusted advisor rather than pursuing transactional sales.
    • Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance revenue growth with credit quality and risk considerations.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
    • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across sales, underwriting, risk, and other internal functions.
    • Comfortable working independently in a field-based role while maintaining strong internal collaboration.
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle.
    • Mortgage Broker or Mortgage Agent license is considered an asset.
    • Ability to analyze market trends, identify business opportunities, and translate insights into territory growth strategies.
    • Location: The original posting contains conflicting location requirements, referencing both Calgary/Southern Alberta and Vancouver Island. Candidates should confirm the expected territory and location during the hiring process.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive compensation: $80,000 CAD base salary plus uncapped commission tied to territory growth.
      • Health & wellness: Comprehensive drug, vision, and dental insurance.
      • Wellness spending: Health and Wellness Spending Accounts.
      • Mental health support: 24/7 access to telemedicine, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and mental health services for employees and their families.
      • Paid time off: 4 weeks of paid vacation, 8 personal days, and statutory holidays.
      • Retirement planning: RRSP matching program.
      • Family support: Maternity and parental leave top-up programs.
      • Professional development: Education reimbursement, mentoring, and continuous training.
      • Career growth: Exposure to a broad national financial network and opportunities to expand commercial and industry expertise.
      • Inclusive environment: Commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion across the workplace.
      • Field flexibility: Remote-based work combined with significant autonomy and in-person engagement across the assigned broker territory.
