Job Summary
The Regional HSE Manager is responsible for leading, standardizing, and continuously improving Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security programs across multiple manufacturing sites. This role provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and coaching support to Site HSE Managers while ensuring regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and alignment with organizational goals.

The Regional HSE Manager serves as the primary escalation point for complex safety, environmental, security, and incident management issues, and plays a key leadership role in driving a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture across the region. This person must be based in the Grand Rapids, MI area to be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
• Provide leadership, direction, and technical guidance to Site HSE Managers across multiple facilities.
• Translate corporate HSE strategy into actionable regional and site-level objectives.
• Drive consistency and standardization of HSE programs, metrics, and reporting processes.
• Serve as a strategic business partner to Operations, HR, and Plant Leadership teams.
• Mentor and develop Site HSE Managers to build bench strength and succession readiness.

Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and applicable regulations.
• Oversee HSMS aligned to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001/18001 standards.
• Lead regulatory inspections and third-party audits.
• Identify regional risk trends and prioritize mitigation activities.
• Provide escalation support for serious incidents and enforcement actions.

Incident Management & Performance Improvement
• Oversee investigation of serious injuries, environmental events, and near-misses.
• Ensure effective root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
• Analyze injury, claims, and leading indicator data.
• Drive injury reduction and workers’ compensation cost control initiatives.

Training, Engagement & Culture
• Establish regional HSE training and competency standards.
• Champion employee engagement and safe behavior initiatives.
• Support Safety Committees and Emergency Response Teams.
• Reinforce leadership accountability through coaching and influence.

Environmental, Security & Emergency Preparedness
• Oversee environmental compliance programs and reporting.
• Provide governance for site security and emergency response planning.
• Support crisis management and business continuity planning.
• Ensure corrective actions following drills and real events are completed.

Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Years of Experience: 7–10 years of progressive HSE experience in manufacturing.
• Previous Job Experience: 3+ years of multi-site leadership experience.
• Travel: Ability to travel 50–70%.
• Requires Competencies & knowledge:
◦ Expert knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state regulations.
◦ Food manufacturing safety experience.
◦ Ability to lead and influence across multiple locations.
◦ Advanced incident investigation and data analysis skills.

The pay range for this full-time, salaried position is $110,152 - $165,228/year. Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive based on company and individual performance.  We offer a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed.  Base pay information is based on market location.
