About the role

RegionalEnvironmental AffairsDirector– Midwest Region, Chicago, IL

The Role

Reporting to theMidwestPresident, the RegionalEnvironmental AffairsDirectoris abrand-newrolewith the opportunity tolead environmental, sustainability, and compliance activities across the region, its facilities, and communitiesThis excitingposition willdesignour regionalsustainability and environmentalstrategyensuring local accountability, strong community involvement and partnership,and engagement from all functionsThe Environmental Affairs Directorwill interface with both existing and potential customers,effectively communicatesustainabilityvisions and goals, andlead all efforts to upholdoursustainability promise.

Your work will include

  • Strategically establishcommunity partnerswithin the Midwest region to createmutually beneficial relationships, a positive brand image, andengagement from our teams.Grow oursite environmental leaders to own the local work with their own community partners.

  • Support growth within the region to advance sustainable waste management servicesthroughcommunity and governmental relationsalong withpermitting efforts

  • Educate and supporttheregional sales teams on sustainability&environmental affairsto grow business and exceedcustomer and salesexpectations.

  • Spearhead ourkey environmentalperformanceindicatorsand corrective actionsand rally the teamto ensure expectations are met.

  • Liaise with the Corporate Environmental team to influenceenterprise policy and procedure ensuring standardization, consistency, and flawless execution.

  • Through direct and indirect reporting relationships, lead the Midwest Environmental team, growing and developing talent, and ensuring we have a strong pipeline ofexperts.

  • The opportunity to presenttoexecutive leaders,staff,customers,andgovernmental repsto educate, influence, and push our sustainability agenda forward.

  • Proactivelyengagewithour Midwest sitesto resolve and prevent environmental issues,using lean practices and a continuous improvement mindset.

Candidate Profile:

We are looking forapassionateleaderwho wants the opportunity to take on a role that will have a significant impact onsustainability! Through their workthey have the unique platform to both grow the business, educate our workforce, and buildmeaningful partnerships with the community.The successful candidatemust have 10+years of progressively responsible experience in diverse environmental areas including compliance, permitting, stack tests, sustainability,climate change,etc, andbe located inthe Chicago area (or willing to relocate).

Additionally, it would be great if the candidate had

  • Experience developing and/or negotiating permitapplications andwith a focus on Title V air operating permits and solid waste facility permits.

  • Experience with corporate strategy development and implementation

  • Executive level experience with Profit and Loss management

  • Experience in interpreting and analyzing State and Federal regulations,specifically with those impacting thewaste to energyindustry

  • Detailed knowledge of environmental regulatory programs (e.g. RCRA, Clean Air Act, etc.).

  • Experience in aLean /Continuous Improvement environment

  • Successful experience interacting with Federal, State and local regulators, legislators, permitting agencies and other community organizations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in relatedscientific(biology, chemistry, environmental science) or engineering (environmental, chemical, mechanical, etc.) disciplinesMastersdegree preferred.

  • 10+ years’relatedexperience

  • Ability to travel~35%

Pay Transparency

Reworld is committed to paying its staff equitably, and we strive to provide competitive compensation and benefits packages. The range below reflects Reworld’s reasonable estimate of base pay for this role based on primary posting location. It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future. 

The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $157,000.00 - $224,400.00 USD. For hourly roles, this is the annualized salary. To calculate the hourly rate, divide by 2080.
