
The Director of Field Medical will be responsible for leading a team of MSLs with the implementation of the medical plan for products currently available or in development. Additionally, this position will serve as the lead for the entire Field Medical team by providing representation and support internally on one of our product teams. This is a field-based position covering the Heartland region, with states including: MN, WI, MI, IL, IN, OH, WV, KY, VA, DC, PA. Ideal candidates will reside in or near these areas.
Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and oversight to a team of 6 MSLs
Ensure the accurate and timely execution of medical plans for supported programs
Assist in embedding a culture of accountability and the highest standards of Field Medical excellence for MSLs through:
Development and implementation of territory specific plans
Creation of individual development plans for each MSL
Identification of areas for improvement in skill and knowledge
Communicating clear expectations for MSL role
Contribute to the overall direction of the Field Medical team by serving on the Field Medical Leadership Team
Serve as an important point of contact for specific thought leaders for the diseases in which we operate
Represent Field Medical by serving as Field Medical lead for one of our programs on MAST and other internal cross functional teams
Contribute to the development of clear and actionable strategic Medical Plans by sharing feedback and insights gathered by the MSLs
Contribute to the development and cultivation of long-term strategic medical partnerships with specific clinical experts, societies, collaborative groups, advocacy groups, and other external stakeholders with designated region
Attend therapeutically focused meetings and congresses to interact with thought leaders and professional societies. Facilitate deeper understanding of thought leaders, policy makers and payers, their unmet medical needs.
Participate and contribute to projects and initiatives within a matrix environment that increases the value and productivity of Medical Affairs and Field Medical
Maintain and update knowledge and expertise relevant to the therapeutic area
Ensure complete compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines
Foster an atmosphere conducive to teamwork and collaboration
Direct MSL management experience or demonstration of mentoring/coaching and leadership abilities during Alkermes tenure
Doctoral level preferred in Pharmacy, Medicine, Biological Sciences, Health Services Research or Public Health, (i.e., M.D., Pharm.D., R.Ph., MPH, Ph.D., D.Ph.,)
Experience in psychiatry or neurology preferred
Position will be field-based
Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills
Strong leadership skills
Demonstrated problem solving experience
Ability to work well in a matrix environment
Flexible to changing priorities, detail-oriented, and works well under pressure
Ability to critically analyze and synthesize complex scientific data
Understanding of Medical Affairs and the role of the department in drug development and product commercialization
Ability to travel up to 60 %
Must currently reside within the designated territory
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $240k to $254k. In addition, this position offers a performance-based bonus target and eligibility to participate in our long term incentive program.
