Department Overview

The Campus for Rural Health Education at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is an interprofessional education initiative designed to prepare future health care professionals to work effectively in rural settings. It offers immersive clinical and community experiences in three OHSU regions: Klamath Falls, Northeast Oregon, and the South Coast. The program addresses rural health challenges such as limited access to care, cultural and social barriers, and workforce shortages. Students live and work alongside peers from different OHSU health professions programs, gaining hands-on experience in a rural context while learning to collaborate across disciplines.

Candidate must be a current OHSU PA Faculty Member and reside in Klamath County

Function/Duties of Position

This academic position provides direct programmatic support to the Regional Associate Dean in their overall leadership and oversight of the education, research and outreach activities associated with a Clinical Hub of OHSU’s Rural Campus in Klamath Falls. The Education Director will work collaboratively with the course directors on leading the rural IPE course and provide faculty oversight of the student coursework and community-engaged projects. They will assist in the recruitment and retention of clinical placement sites, clinical preceptor relations and development, coordination of community-based research programs, and local community relations. This position will also serve as one point of contact for students while they are rotating through their site and will support the Regional Associate Dean in ensuring the health and well-being and the quality of the student academic or research experience. The Regional Campus, Education Director will work with the Regional Site Coordinator who is responsible for general administrative duties, coordination of student experiences, and day-to-day management of preceptors, health care providers, and the community at large.

Key responsibilities and performance standards include: site coordination and direction, instruction, preceptor engagement and support, community relationships, and communication and collaboration.

Required Qualifications

The Regional Campus, Education Director must have a current PA faculty appointment within OHSU and direct clinical experience in addressing the healthcare needs of rural and underserved communities. Moreover, through their experience, the candidate must have a clear and articulate understanding of the contemporary needs and approaches to addressing the healthcare needs of rural and underserved communities. In addition to an earned doctorate or equivalent, the Regional Campus, Education Director must live and work in Klamath County and be very familiar with the locations they oversee and have proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other senior leaders, faculty, staff, students and alumni of OHSU as well as external constituents. The Regional Campus Education Director must possess a clear understanding of the importance of diversity for an academic health center and the ability and skill to help lead the institution towards achieving its strategic goals for diversity.
