Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering analysis expertise to project teams that are responsible to deliver robust, cost effective equipment, automation and machine systems to OCS manufacturing plants and processes on time.
  • Lead and work with project team members to track and solve process yield issues and develop basic understanding of process requirements.
  • Defines and documents equipment design specifications, develops equipment design concepts, design and follows construction of prototype and production equipment, conducts proof of concept tests, collects and evaluates data, and makes engineering recommendations.
  • Interface with external machine builders, systems integrators, and suppliers to specify and successfully deliver fully integrated equipments systems to the internal customers on-time, on-budget, and in satisfaction of process performance measures.
  • Actively participates in system integration, check-out, installation, debug, production start-up, and training of plant personnel.
  • Report on project activities on a pre-determined basis. Ensure results meet the customer’s requirements and standards.
  • Job requires occasional travel to Corning plants and vendors locations for process development for new products, new operation and process improvement projects.
  • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments with minimal supervision.

Experiences & Education

  • 5+ years Project leading experience
  • 5~8+ years Major in engineering department with BS or above degree - Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Telecom related
  • 5+ years in automation system design and engineering
  • 5+ years international project experience involving new product development, new automation equipment development, prototyping, debug and optimization.

Required Skills

  • Good commanding on automation equipment design and process equipment integration
  • Detail oriented and able to perform with limited supervision
  • Effective, high quality oral and written communication skills with English
  • Proactive, independent, flexible, quick learner
  • Hands-on experiences on improve functionalities of existing machines to extend their life time
  • Customer oriented; meets customer needs with quality results
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities tasks
  • Ability to contribute to the development of others
  • Responsible for the accuracy of work performed; takes a proactive approach to ensure quality of work.

Desired Skills

  • 5~8+ years in equipment design field and engineering analysis experience to automate manual

processes

  • 3+ years in programming and simulation would be a plus
  • 3+ years with CAD/CAM capability especially for CNC application would be a plus
  • Familiar with industrial safety standard
  • Basic understanding of LEAN and TPM would be a plus
  • Experience on automation equipment design and integration such as material handling, CNC for finishing, conveyor, facility Automation, CCD integration.
  • Familiar with commercial standard parts include mechanical and sensing components application and selection.
  • Familiar with IT tolerance, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Mechanical components.
  • Familiar with setup-reduction, poka-yoke, continuous flow etc
  • Familiar with connector manufacturing process – precision assembly, polishing, epoxy dispensing, curing…etc.

Soft Skills

  • Self starter who is able to satisfy their objectives and timelines with a minimal amount of supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment and participate on a matrix project team.
  • Results oriented with a high commitment level
  • 6 sigma skill or project management.
