About Us:

The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

The Regional Aerodrome Reporting Officer is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the aerodrome, supporting aircraft movements, and maintaining essential aviation infrastructure.

This is a hands‑on, safety‑critical role involving both core ARO responsibilities and broader aviation and site‑support functions. You will play a key role in ensuring all aerodrome facilities remain safe, serviceable and compliant with CASA regulatory requirements, while supporting day‑to‑day aviation operations.

The position also requires regular travel to remote communities, including by light aircraft and 4WD, with overnight stays as required

The key duties of this role include but are not limited to:

• Conduct aerodrome inspections in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Regulations including:

a) Inspection of movement areas for surface condition and cleanliness

b) Assessment of runway usability, particularly unsealed pavements during wet conditions

c) Inspection of markings, markers, wind direction indicators and aerodrome lighting systems

d) Identification of obstacles that may infringe approach, take-off, transitional or other protected surfaces

e) Monitoring of animal and bird activity on or near the aerodrome

f) Inspection of fencing and access controls to prevent unauthorised entry
to movement areas

• Process and manage NOTAMs in compliance with CASA and legislative requirements.
• Operate and communicate effectively using aerodrome radio systems.
• Record and report on safety inspections, wildlife hazards, and maintenance activities.
• Manage operational impediments such as wildlife and other hazards affecting aircraft operations.
• Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills when engaging with staff, contractors, airlines and the public.
• Ensure compliance with Local Government policies and remain aware of local issues that may impact airport operations.
• Working outdoors in the elements to undertake grounds and general maintenance activities as part of the Maintenance component of the position.
• Ensuring all grounds are kept in an orderly and tidy manner and in compliance with airport operating and safety requirements.
• Perform other relevant duties as required.

About You

To be successful in the role, you must have:

• Hold a current Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) Certificate or be eligible to
  obtain one.
• (AROC) Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate or be eligible to obtain one.
• Maintain a valid Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or be able to obtain one.
• Desirable: general understanding of aviation laws, regulations, and airside operational
  procedures.
• Hold a current Class C driver’s licence.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a National Criminal History Check.
• Hold a current Working with Children (Ochre) Card, or ability to obtain.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to consult, liaise, and resolve issues effectively.
• Demonstrated digital literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft 365 and mobile devices
  (tablets and smartphones).
