Region Stormwater Coordinator

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a highly motivated professional with exceptional communication skills to lead Region Three’s stormwater quality, permit requirements, and pollution prevention efforts.

About the Role

As the Region Stormwater Coordinator (Environmental Scientist III), you will apply technical knowledge and administrative judgment to coordinate across Region Three maintenance, construction, design, and environmental operations, while supervising the Region Three Stormwater Specialist. You will serve a vital function in keeping Utah moving by ensuring full compliance with the UPDES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit.

Key Responsibilities

As a Region Stormwater Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Permit Compliance & Reporting: Oversee Region Three MS4 permit compliance, maintain documentation, assist with annual reporting and SWMP preparation, and partner with local municipalities, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Inspections & Field Audits: Conduct field reviews, mock inspections, and dry-weather screening across maintenance facilities, construction sites, and priority areas; track corrective actions and maintain SWPPPs.
  • Project Review & Asset Management: Collaborate with designers and project managers to review project plan sets, track budgets, and manage the inventory and maintenance of long-term BMP control measures.
  • Incident Response & Operations: Support emergency spill response efforts and develop, update, and implement standard operating procedures for regional pollution prevention.
  • Training & Outreach: Develop and deliver stormwater compliance training for Region Three pre-construction, construction, and maintenance staff, while leading public education and outreach initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field OR equivalent practical work experience (a combination of education and experience is acceptable).
  • A thorough understanding of stormwater quality regulations, other related environmental rules and regulations, and/or pollution prevention best management practices.
  • Strong time management and detail-oriented focus with a proven ability to handle multiple ongoing projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and a service-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to applicants that:

  • Have directly relevant education and work experience.
  • Reside within 50 miles of Region Three Headquarters.
