RTS Operator

Smart Environmental Ltd is seeking a reliable and motivated operator to join our team based at the Refuse Transfer Station in Marton/Ratana.

Smart Environmental Ltd works on behalf of local councils, businesses, and communities providing rubbish and recycling collections. Acquired by Blue Planet and with a large fleet of collection vehicles and line haul operations, our mission is to divert waste from landfill.

About the Role:

This role is responsible for supporting the day to day operations of our recycling facility. You’ll be helping sort and process recyclable materials all while maintaining a safe worksite.

This hands-on, 26–32 hour per week permanent role, working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, will keep you active throughout the day while offering a supportive team environment, stable hours, and the opportunity to make a positive impact in your local community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor the RTS (Refuse Transfer Station) safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure the site is clean, tidy, and maintained to health and safety standards.
  • Weigh, record, and process waste and recycling materials accurately.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including answering questions and directing where to go
  • Complete basic administrative tasks such as record keeping

About you:

  • Holds a current NZ Class 1 driver’s licence
  • Wheels Endorsement is Essential
  • Confident using technology and systems
  • Quick thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative team player with a willingness to learn
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards
