The Refugee Resettlement Department assists refugees in Houston to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to reach self-sufficiency and live with dignity.

The Education Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating activities related to the education programs in the refugee resettlement department at Catholic Charities. Other responsibilities include communicating with funders for assigned programs, ensuring completion of accurate and timely reports for programs, and seeking out opportunities to strengthen community involvement and collaboration.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Organize all activities related to education programs in the refugee resettlement department. These activities may include educational fairs, professional development trainings for clients, after-school programs, in-school intervention programs, summer enrichment, and parent-engagement activities.
  • Assist clients enrolled in education programs to assess strengths, develop service plans, and meet goals.
  • Maintain communication with education service providers including schools, local colleges, community organizations, and transcript evaluators.
  • Work with staff members to improve already existing processes, as well as create new opportunities to build program capacity and recognition in the community. Maintain clear communication with funders as with other funders and complete tasks accordingly.
  • Coordinate with the vocational training team the documentation process ensuring compliance with funders requirements.
  • Conduct training and orientations for community/clients on topics related to education. Meet with parents, clients, teachers, and staff to provide guidance and support.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations to maximize the capacity to provide educational resources to clients.
  • Assist in referring clients to driving classes, tracking payments, and conducting follow ups to ensure course completion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in refugee work or social
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand program policies and make informed decisions regarding programs.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility.
  • An understanding of and sensitivity to other cultures is necessary.
  • Ability to manage time and resources, Team player.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours as necessary.
  • Must be willing to drive 15-passenger vans as needed, and conduct airport pickups as scheduled.
  • Highly self-motivated, responsive and a good trouble-shooter.
  • Proficient skills and experience in MS Office Suite, i.e., Word, Excel, Access
