Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Maintains and rebuilds hermetically and semi-hermetically sealed compressor systems by using a hermetic compressor analyzer and electrical tester to isolate the malfunctioning parts.
  • Recharges a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration systems by selecting the appropriate refrigerant and ensuring that all foreign matter is eliminated to provide optimum cooling capacity.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs refrigeration-related electrical components.
  • May service and maintain centrifugal and absorption chillers by removing and replacing motors, adjusting and inspecting motor coolants, replacing tube bundles and performing electrical repairs.
  • Completes required after-hours on-call rotation.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of refrigerants used in commercial and residential applications.
  • Ability to determine solutions to basic problems.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.

Qualifications

Required

  • Three (3) years of experience in refrigeration repair, or the equivalency.
  • Current Environmental Protection Agency license.
  • Experience in silver-soldering.
  • Depending upon department of hire, a valid, State of Utah Driver's License may be required.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Certification from an accredited HVAC & R college.
  • Technical training in refrigeration and electrical controls.

  • This position involves very physical work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. The position may involve moving heavy equipment and/or supplies. This position involves a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals.
