Job Title: Refractory Installation Manager
Location: Los Mochis, Mexico (On-site)


We are seeking an experienced Refractory Installation Manager to join our team on a major industrial construction project in Los Mochis, Mexico. This site-based role is responsible for the full execution, coordination, and delivery of refractory works (both self-performed and subcontracted) across large-scale facilities, including ammonia, methanol, and petrochemical plants.

Key Responsibilities


  • Manage the complete refractory scope, including material selection, design verification, application, and field installation in line with project specifications.

  • Coordinate closely with the Mechanical Site Manager and Construction Manager in planning and executing refractory works for furnaces, reformers, reactors, and related equipment.

  • Define critical work fronts, curing/drying schedules, and heat-up sequences to meet project milestones and support commissioning activities.

  • Review and approve method statements, installation procedures, and subcontractor documentation.

  • Validate subcontractor progress and approve payment applications according to contract terms.

Construction Planning & Control


  • Lead daily and weekly planning with supervisors and maintain a 4-week lookahead schedule.

  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements, risk assessments, and mitigation measures.

  • Monitor installation productivity and implement corrective actions when needed.

  • Oversee material logistics, including proper storage and shelf-life control of refractory materials.

  • Provide input on progress, manpower, costs, and schedule performance.

Team & Subcontractor Management


  • Coordinate teams and set priorities aligned with project objectives.

  • Lead coordination meetings and document progress, performance, and planning.

  • Monitor subcontractor productivity, quality, and contractual compliance.

  • Mentor supervisors and ensure efficient daily execution of activities.

Quality & Compliance


  • Ensure adherence to industry standards (e.g., API 936 / 560 / 975 / 982).

  • Coordinate quality inspections including testing, sampling, and documentation.

  • Review reports and ensure compliance with company procedures.

Interface Management & Reporting


  • Coordinate with engineering, commissioning, HSE, and other disciplines.

  • Manage technical queries (TQs), RFIs, and red-line documentation.

  • Report progress, constraints, and performance to senior site management.

Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance


  • Ensure full compliance with client and regulatory standards.

  • Enforce HSE procedures and promote a strong safety culture.

  • Oversee safe lifting operations and material handling practices.

Experience & Key Competencies


  • Minimum of 5 years' experience managing refractory works in complex industrial projects.

  • Experience in petrochemical, ammonia, or methanol projects is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of refractory materials (castables, gunning, firebrick) and high-temperature equipment.

  • Familiarity with API 936 or equivalent standards.

  • Solid understanding of material behavior, thermal expansion, and installation techniques.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience in process industries (oil & gas, petrochemical, pipelines).

  • Fluency in English (mandatory); Spanish and other languages are a plus.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel).

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.).
