Located at the University of Melbourne in Werribee, GVH is a busy 24/7 multidisciplinary veterinary teaching hospital providing emergency, general practice, referral and specialist care.

Our hospital brings together teams across Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency & Critical Care and General Practice, creating an environment where collaboration and learning happen every day.

Greencross Vet Hospital (GVH) is looking for an experienced and passionate Referral Veterinary Nurse to join our multidisciplinary referral team.

Working across Internal Medicine, Neurology and Oncology, you’ll be exposed to complex and rewarding cases, advanced diagnostics and treatments, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians and specialist teams.

As a Referral Nurse, you’ll provide high-quality nursing care to patients with a diverse range of complex medical and neurological conditions.

You will:

  • Provide exceptional nursing care across Internal Medicine, Neurology and Oncology
  • Assist with advanced diagnostics, procedures and treatments.
  • Manage patient admissions, hospitalisation, monitoring and discharge.
  • Perform technical nursing skills including venepuncture, IV catheterisation and anaesthesia monitoring.
  • Work closely with specialists, veterinarians and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate compassionately with clients throughout their pet’s treatment journey.
  • Support and mentor DVM students during their clinical rotations.
  • Share your knowledge and contribute to the development of junior nurses and the wider team.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, motivated and excited by the opportunity to work with complex referral cases.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent – essential.
  • At least 2 years of veterinary nursing experience, with referral or specialist experience highly regarded.
  • Strong technical nursing and patient care skills.
  • An interest or experience in Internal Medicine, Neurology or Oncology
  • A passion for learning, teaching and mentoring others.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to adapt and thrive in a busy multidisciplinary environment.
