What You’ll Do

The Referral Specialist processes all referral requests to outpatient centers, specialist offices, or outside services needed. ReferralSpecialist’sserve as a liaison for patient resources. The Referral Specialist will often work closely with insurance companies. The Referral Specialist must be able to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability.

Note: This role is hybrid, which will require days in our Spring Branch or Aldine Neighborhood Center and also remote.

Essential responsibilities consist of but not all inclusive: 

  •  Ensures the highest level of customer service possible 
  • Displays respect and concern for all patients 
  • Attends all clinic huddles and clinic monthly meetings 
  • Expediting patient referrals to specialty offices 
  • Manages patient referrals by processing them and obtaining authorizations intimelymanner per company policy.  
  • Maintain ongoing tracking andappropriate documentationon referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety 
  • Ensure complete andaccurateregistration, including patient demographic and current insurance information 
  • Assemble information concerning patient’s clinical background and referral needs 
  • Provide and faxappropriate clinicalinformation to specialist office 
  • Schedule, problem solve, communicate, and coordinate referral appointments with outside specialists. 
  • Updates patient information and making changes to EMR platform 
  • Review details and expectations about the referral with patients. 
  • Routinely provide patients with other clinic and community-based resource materials asappropriate. 
  • Other Duties as assigned 

What You’ll Bring

  • 1+ years progressive work experience in the healthcare industry  
  • 2+ years of customer service  
  • Experience managing referrals andauthorizations   
  • Experience documenting in electronic medical records  
  • Comfortable working independently  
  • Experience in Value-based care operationspreferred  
  • Fluent in Spanish is required

Education, Experience, Licensure, or Certification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalentrequired
  • Bachelor's DegreeinHealthcare Administration, Business, or Hospitality preferred
