GENERAL SUMMARY

The Referral Coordinator serves as the primary contact/resource person for patients, primary care physicians and other healthcare service providers. The Referral Coordinator is responsible for answering and appropriately managing incoming telephone calls, verification of benefits and services, scheduling patient appointments, and responding to patient information needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Works on new patient and existing patient referrals.
  • Verifies the type of insurance and proper authorization as needed.
  • Contacts the referring physician to obtain the referral form.
  • Obtains any added documents as needed.
  • Records referrals in computer.
  • Ensures that new patient charts are complete.
  • Updates co-payments in the computer.
  • Mails new patient packets.
  • Assists with all front office related duties as needed.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Phone etiquette skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to follow up on all communications.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 1 year of experience working in a medical office preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance is preferred.
  • Urology experience preferred.
