Job Description

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) Library has an opening for a Reference Librarian. In this position the Librarian is responsible for offering legal and other types of research services to the entire office and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Conduct legal, medical, psychological, business, and general research.
- Acquire legal research data from diverse sources including books, Westlaw, PsycInfo, Lexis, web resources and other sources as necessary.
- Create and maintain SharePoint site.
- Provide Zoom classroom and one-on-one training for knowledge management system and legal research training.
- Evaluate information resources and troubleshoot computer problems.
- Facilitate Interlibrary Loan.
- Research expert witnesses.
- Compile legislative histories.
- Maintain DANYLawKM, DANY'S in-house knowledge management system.
- Gather and maintain Legislative History Collection.
- Perform related duties.

In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.

Preferred Requirements/Skills:

- Master of Library Science (MLS) degree.
- Experience in legal research or library work.
- Excellent Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- Excellent Electronic Information search strategies and techniques.
- Superior organizational, time management, writing and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of staff.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and high concern for accuracy.
- Strong communication skills both written and oral.
- Familiarity with Generative Artificial Intelligence

Additional Information:

- Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least one (1) year in their current unit/ bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
- Looking for candidates that could commit to one (1) year to the hiring unit.
- Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
