Job Summary

As a Journeyperson Electrician primarily responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of electrical instrumentation including VFDS, PLCs and Control panels on extrusion lines.

They will work with a variety of electrical pneumatic and electronic instruments to measure and control variables such as pressures, flow, temperature, level and composition.

Principal Responsibilities

• Work on variety of obsolete control systems and implement continuous improvement program to update all PLCs, HMIs, DCS and SCADA systems.
• Prepare schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made on electrical / control circuits and systems.
• Maintain accuracy of flow meters, pressure gages, temperature indicators, controllers, and other recording, indicating, or controlling instruments.
• Calibrate, repair, maintain and adjust system components, and install and maintain instruments and controls on new or existing equipment.
• Plan and layout work assignments from complex blueprints, sketches or verbal instruction and accomplish these assignments with maximum efficiency
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial electrical and electronic control systems and devices
• Maintain the current controls inventory, propose and implement upgrades to improve equipment reliability.
• Ability to debug PLC (Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens etc.) programs and make necessary process improvement
• Conduct preventative maintenance programs and keep accurate maintenance records
• Capable of providing training, instruction and direction to apprentices or helpers assigned to them during their duties.
• Update and maintain a real time backup of all PLCs, HMIs, and VFD program.
• Must know and keep updated with all national, provincial and local codes as they affect repair, maintenance and safety.
• Work during emergency situations, plant shut down periods to perform all necessary maintenance and preventive maintenance activities.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

• Journeyperson certificate as an Electrician required;
• Red Seal Certification and a minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience on related repair, maintenance and installation of equipment pertinent to a production shop environment.
• Experience in Industrial or Manufacturing
• Proficient experience in electrical panel troubleshooting, Smart Relays, Safety Relays, PID control
• A strong focus on continuous improvement and attention to detail is a must.
• Availability to work non-scheduled overtime for major breakdowns
