Job Description

Title: Recycling Driver
Division Name: Finance and Planning
Department: University Recycling

Under general supervision from designated supervisors, to provide assistance in the operation of a campus-recycling program. Incumbent will meet daily with a variety of university customers in the completion of assigned tasks.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$26.79 per hour

Required Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid State of Illinois Non-CDL Class C license (or must obtain a Non-CDL Class C License within the first five (5) months of employment).
3. Six (6) months of full time (or part time equivalent) work experience as a route or commercial delivery driver or closely related experience to the position.
4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of work experience related to driving motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight of 16,000 pounds or more.
2. Skill in the operation of motor vehicle(s) with electric lift gate.
3. Skill in operating power equipment such as a forklift (whether propane or electric).
4. Experience moving very heavy loads of material with the aid of a pallet jack.
5. Ability to transport very heavy toters from building to truck.

Work Hours

Monday - Friday; 5:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
2. Ability to climb, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach overhead.
3. Ability to push, pull up to 60 lbs.
4. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
