Mission Contribution:
Fulfills the agencys mission of providing jobs to people with barriers to employment. Also, helps fulfill agencys goal of promoting strong environmental stewardship.
Function:
Responsible for collecting, sorting, packaging, baling, and/or storing recyclable material including but not limited to paper, plastic, cardboard, scrap metal and electronic materials.
Essential Functions:
- Ensures World Class Customer Service by greeting donors with a smile and in a friendly manner at donors vehicle within 10 seconds of their arrival.
- Offers assistance with unloading recycling materials from the donors vehicle, and offers guidance in the pre-sort process.
- Ensures a clean, safe, and clutter free center, inside and outside.
- Keeps the donation area organized and hazard free, using authorized containers.
- Maintains Goodwill standards for image including wearing a clean neat uniform and name badge.
- Efficiently handles recyclable material according to established procedures.
- - Puts material into the proper bins (plastics, metal, glass, paper, etc).
- - Removes incompatible items from sort stream.
- - Bales, crushes, densifies, or shreds material as instructed.
- Ensures bales, barrels or pallets are properly and securely wrapped for transport.
- Weighs material before its stored, and properly records weight in log.
- Observes all safety procedures and reports any safety problems to supervisor immediately.
- Opens and closes as needed.
- Assists with other recycling projects as needed, including but not limited to electronic or textile recycling and community recycling events.
- Upholds the mission, vision and values of the agency and adheres to standards for conduct and professionalism.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and be bonded.
- Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
- Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
- Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, employees and co-workers.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule based upon business needs.
- Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
- Must be able to operate a forklift in a safe manner.
- Must be able to safely operate baling, densifying, crushing, and sorting machines
- Must pass a drug screen, including random drug testing as required by the Drug Free Workplace policy.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to push, bend, and reach.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to push wheeled hoppers exceeding 100 pounds.
- Must be able to engage in prolonged standing.
- Must be able to tolerate heat, dust and excessive noise.
Working Conditions:
Work is in a warehouse setting with exposure to extreme temperatures at times. Exposure to dust and noise from machinery. Masks and ear protection may be required.
