POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Gymnastics & Ninja Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing daily program operations, supporting and developing staff, and ensuring a safe, positive, and engaging environment for participants. This position promotes quality instruction, encourages staff growth, and helps create an atmosphere that builds confidence, skill development, and self-esteem in children.
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 18 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous gymnastics, ninja, coaching, or leadership experience required. 2-3 years of related experience preferred, with demonstrated ability to support and supervise staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides leadership, supervision, and support to gymnastics and ninja staff while ensuring a safe, positive, and engaging environment for all participants.
- Models and promotes the YMCA’s mission of developing a healthy mind, body, and spirit through quality recreation programming.
- Trains, mentors, and provides feedback to instructors and coaches to ensure consistent instruction, safety practices, and participant engagement.
- Oversees daily class operations, including staff coverage, class quality, equipment use, and program expectations.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of gymnastics and ninja curriculum, lesson plans, and program improvements.
- Uses good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity when addressing staff, participant, and parent needs.
- Ensures staff follow YMCA policies, procedures, Code of Conduct standards, and appropriate behavior management practices.
- Communicates effectively with participants, parents, staff, and leadership to address questions, concerns, and program needs.
- Monitors class attendance, staff schedules, and program records to maintain accurate documentation.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe gymnastics/ninja environment while ensuring equipment and facility standards are met.
- Assists with staff scheduling, finding coverage, and communicating staffing needs with the Gymnastics Director.
- Supports hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of gymnastics and ninja team members.
- Teaches gymnastics and ninja classes as needed, providing quality instruction, skill development, and a positive experience for participants.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations, emergency procedures, and risk management practices; reports concerns to the Gymnastics Director and Risk Management as needed.
- Supports special events, competitions, camps, clinics, evaluations, and scholarship fundraising activities.
- Attends required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities as directed by Countryside YMCA and the Gymnastics Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required by business necessity.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to demonstrate and teach a variety of gymnastics and ninja skills while ensuring proper progressions and safety practices.
- Reliable and punctual attendance with the ability to support daily program operations.
- Creative problem-solving skills with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to supervise participants and staff with confidence, enthusiasm, and a focus on safety and positive experiences.
- Ability to provide leadership, guidance, and support to instructors while maintaining program quality.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and successfully complete a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to plan, lead, supervise, and participate in a variety of gymnastics and ninja activities in an indoor recreation setting. Noise levels will vary depending on participant activity and program operations within the gymnastics center. Role may require carrying, kneeling, pushing, pulling, sitting, climbing, lifting, running, stooping, crouching, standing, and walking. Must have the physical ability to assist participants, demonstrate skills when needed, and respond quickly to safety concerns or emergency situations.
