This part-time position is more than a front desk role—you’ll help lead staff and volunteers, support artists and the museum gift shop, assist with exhibitions and educational programs, and play a key role in creating welcoming experiences for our visitors. Under the direction of the Art Museum Manager, performs various tasks as necessary to provide services for the St. George Art Museum.

Examples of duties

1. Assists the Museum Manager and Administrative Assistant with the operation and organization of the art museum gift shop, including maintaining consignment artist documentation and required records and meeting with gift shop artists.
2. Oversees the work of other Front Desk employees and volunteers during assigned shifts or tasks
3. Assists with Front Desk staff and Volunteer Docent training, scheduling, and recruitment, including developing and maintaining Front Desk training manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as directed by the Administrative Assistant.
4. Assists the Museum Manager and Administrative Assistant in scheduling volunteers for events, programs, or special projects
5. Assists the Education team with tours, classes, and programming as directed by the Museum Manager or Education Specialist
6. Assists with exhibition preparation, including printing and installing labels, preparing exhibit spaces, leveling and installing artwork, and performing other exhibit-related tasks as directed by the Museum Manager.
7. Provides customer service in person, by phone, and electronically; responds to public inquiries regarding museum, City arts, recreation programs, and services; monitors the museum's general email inbox; and refers or escalates inquiries to appropriate staff as needed.
8. Supports programs and special events and assists with their promotion and advertising.
9. Performs cash deposits and other cash-handling duties as necessary, ensuring funds are handled accurately and timely in accordance with City and division policies and procedures.
10. Performs general office and clerical duties, including data entry, filing, document preparation, copying, scanning, and maintenance of records.
11. Monitors Front Desk inventory, including office supplies, forms, and promotional materials; orders or requests replacement supplies as needed; maintains an orderly Front Desk area; and reports facility issues and submits or monitors repair requests.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
13. Follows all City policies and procedures.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions Working conditions and temperatures may vary depending on assignment. Must be able to identify, evaluate, and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Requires moderately heavy physical activity, including exerting 25–50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10–25 pounds of force frequently. Work may involve intermittent exposure to stressful situations resulting from interactions with the public and other workplace demands.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and variable schedules as needed to support museum programs, exhibitions, events, and other operations. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging fewer than 28 hours per week over a twelve-month period.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework or education in museum studies, visual arts, arts administration, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:
? Minimum of six months experience working at the front desk for the St. George Art Museum, or a similar organization, showing adequate knowledge and skill in assigned tasks
? Minimum of six months of experience using Sportsman SQL or similar registration, point-of-sale, or customer-management software preferred.
? Experience handling cash and providing customer service preferred.
? Experience providing direction to employees or volunteers preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.
