Job Description

As a central hub in the Metro Vancouver area, the City of New Westminster delivers a broad spectrum of urban services to over 92,000 residents. Our Parks and Recreation Department is seeking energetic, dynamic, and organized Recreation Worker 3 staff to plan and lead a variety of programs. Programs include children’s half day and full day camps, sport programs, preschool programs and more. Shifts will range in length from 2-8 hours per day, from 1-5 days per week, at a variety of indoor and outdoor locations across the City.

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic and passionate about working with children with a focus on bringing the fun and adventure to our programs. Candidates must have a minimum of 1-year experience working with children in a leadership role. Candidates must also possess excellent leadership, organizational and customer service skills.

Responsibilities:
• Provide guidance and general leadership according to the nature and requirements of the program
• Prepare and implement lesson plans and activities
• Adapt to changing outdoor conditions
• Follow safety protocols
• Work independently without direct supervision
• Be self-motivated and take initiative in creating opportunities for children
• Provide supervision and leadership to their program group
• Collaborate effectively in a team-oriented instructor environment with minimal oversight
• Perform related work as required

Requirements Include:
• Standard First Aid;
• CPR C Certificate;
• Minimum of 1 year experience instructing classes;
• Excellent communication and listening skills;
• Works well with children;
• The ability to motivate others to help achieve their goals;
• Strong interpersonal skills with the necessary experience and training;
• The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
