DEFINITION:
Under direction, the Recreation Specialist coordinates and presents specialized recreation programs and activities at an assigned recreation facility.
Plans, implements, and evaluates specialized recreation programs and activities at assigned recreation facility.
Assists in developing goals and objectives for specialized recreation programs.
Promotes and publicizes programs for assigned recreation facility.
Supervises, coaches and instructs indoor and outdoor team and athletic events.
Conducts activity and sports administration and registration functions.
Interacts with community groups and members of the public to keep program elements responsive to community need; builds community support and loyalty for specialized recreation programs.
Enforces rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other participants, explains facility rules, and encouraging participation.
Provide for entertainment and set up and break down related decorations and equipment for recreation programs.
Confer with management to discuss and resolve participant complaints.
Manage the daily operations of recreational facilities.
Direct special activities or events as needed.
Evaluate recreation areas, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results.
Meet and collaborate with agency personnel, community organizations, and other professional personnel to plan balanced recreational programs for participants.
Serve as liaison between recreation administrators and activity instructors.
Complete and maintain time and attendance forms.
Develop, design or create new ideas, relationships, and programs for assigned recreation facility.
Participate in the maintenance and cleaning of facilities and grounds, including trash pickup, or changing light bulbs.
Respond in a timely manner to citizen inquiries, requests and complaints regarding facilities, equipment and programming.

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
Ability to maintain a clean and orderly work site.
Ability to plan, organize, motivate, lead, and promote a variety of recreational activities year round for different age groups with diverse interests and varying skill levels.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and rapport with employees, volunteers, supervisors, and general public.
Ability to handle requests, inquiries, and complaints in a cooperative and constructive manner.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work outdoors and under a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to work irregular hours.
Ability to frequently walk and sit when leading various recreational activities.
Ability to occasionally push, pull, climb, kneel, and crouch to prepare facilities and grounds for recreational activities.
Ability to use chemical needed for cleaning recreational facility.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Leisure Services, Recreation Administration or related field and one year of related recreation work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job such as those listed above.
Salary Range:
$17.77-$22.25/hr.
