Highly responsible position in the development, organization and coordination of well-rounded recreation opportunities, programs, and events for a multipurpose Recreation Complex/Community Center with large recreation building and/or satellite parks.
Assists with selecting, training, and evaluating seasonal employees, temporary contractual instructors and volunteers. May assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Senior Recreation Coordinator. Develops, staffs, schedules, equips, supervises, and evaluates seasonal and yearly recreation programs, camps, special events and activities. Assists with publicity for and marketing programs and stimulation of community interest in programs and determines needs by establishing working relationships with community organizations, groups, participants, and the general public. Actively participates in professional development activities and initiates and/or coordinates new program implementation. Assists in administration of recreational center; i.e., answering telephone, registering participants, opening and closing facility, setting up and taking down equipment and facilities according to assignment and schedule. Assists with light maintenance and custodial work required to support recreation programs. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required.
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. May require weekend, night and holiday work.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or a related field and one (1) year paid experience in recreation programming OR an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or a related and three (3) years' paid experience in recreation programming OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years' paid experience in recreation programming with one (1) year in a lead or semi-lead supervisory position.
In House Candidates: This position qualifies for DAP.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Parks and Recreation certification is preferred. Certification in Community CPR and First Aid must be obtained within the first six (6) months of employment.

Pasco County was created in 1887 from the southern part of Hernando County. It was named for Samuel Pasco, who served in the Confederate Army, the state legislature and in the United States Senate from 1887 to 1899. The earliest towns were Anclote, Blanton, Dade City, Earnestville, Fort Dade, Macon (Trilby), Lacoochee and San Antonio. Citrus was an important industry when the county was formed, although a decline followed a freeze in 1895. Several large sawmills operated in the county in the early part of the twentieth century. During the Florida land boom of the 1920s, New Port Richey became the winter home of silent screen star Thomas Meighan and golfer Gene Sarazen; Meighan attempted to bring other Hollywood figures to the city. The county has experienced significant population growth since the 1960s. The growth began along the Gulf coast but is now occurring most rapidly in areas north of Tampa.
Located on the Gulf of Mexico in the Tampa Bay area, Pasco is part of a nine-county region referred to as the "Nature Coast." Pasco County has a total of 742 square miles with more than 100 square miles of managed recreational facilities, including parks, four artificial reefs (one made up of surplus military tanks), more than 25 golf courses, and three State-designated canoe trails. The possibilities to enjoy the outdoors and nature are unlimited.
