SUMMARY OR GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor of Operations, the Recreation Coordinator of Operations coordinates and supports the guest service and daily operations of the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center. This position provides hands-on leadership and training for employees in facility operations, guest service, and risk management.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Guest Services Associates & Leads, Childcare Workers & Leads
Knowledge – Thorough knowledge of recreation facility operations and risk management, departmental policies, and procedures governing recreation centers. Considerable understanding of staff supervision, hiring, training, and evaluation methods; budgeting, purchasing, and administrative recordkeeping; and customer service and public relations techniques. Working knowledge of health and safety standards related to recreation facilities, including CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency response; and proficiency in recreation management software such as RecTrac, along with standard computer applications used for scheduling, communication, and reporting.
Skills – Skilled in providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive community relations; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; leading, motivating, and supporting a diverse workforce; and managing multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Abilities – Ability to manage daily operations of a full-service recreation center; recruit, train, schedule, and supervise operations personnel; assist with budget preparation, purchasing, and financial tracking for facility operations; and develop and implement operational procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality. Ability to evaluate facility utilization, facility use, staff performance and make recommendations for improvement; interpret and enforce City and departmental policies in a consistent and fair manner; and exercise sound judgment and initiative in resolving problems and making decisions. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, facility needs, and seasonal demands; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments and divisions, outside agencies, and the public; and respond effectively to operational issues and emergencies.
EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience – Any combination of experience and education equivalent to the completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation management or a closely related field. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience or demonstrated skills and training in recreation facility operations and personnel management. Current certification in CPR, AED, and first aid or ability to obtain upon hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work will be performed primarily indoors in both a standard office environment and throughout a recreation center requiring repetitive motion. Work requires ability to read and write in English and the ability to communicate effectively orally with co-workers and the public; requires listening skills and being able to follow directions. Work requires a great deal of contact with the general public and the ability to make sound judgment decisions pertaining to day-to-day operations. Position requires multi-tasking and incumbent must be able to effectively communicate rules, regulations, and etiquette to the public. Work requires sitting, standing, walking, pulling, pushing, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, carrying, and lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION
Meets with supervisor to establish specific goals and objectives. Exercise some independence of judgment in meeting assigned objectives and implementing City/department operations, services, and programs. The supervisor is kept informed of progress and potentially controversial matters and areas of far-reaching implications. Completed work is reviewed from an overall standpoint of meeting City/department goals and in providing acceptable service levels to the City.
