About the role:
As a Recreation and Engagement Assistant, you will work closely with the Recreation and Engagement Coordinator to plan, deliver and evaluate personalised leisure and lifestyle programs for residents. These programs include one-to-one activities, group sessions, special events and culturally tailored experiences. Your role will support resident choice, independence and fulfilment through meaningful and purposeful engagement. Within our supportive work environment your skills and compassion are valued.
You will have the opportunity to:
Support residents’ goals of care in partnership with each resident and/or their representative
Assist with the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of personalised leisure and recreation programs in collaboration with residents, the Recreation and Engagement Coordinator and the broader care team
Facilitate a variety of individual and group activities that promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing, helping residents feel connected, heard and valued
Provide appropriate and stimulating programs for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment
Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, care plans and participation records in line with organisational and aged care requirements
Apply a person-centred approach that recognises and promotes each individual’s unique goals and preferences
Promote an inclusive and vibrant environment that encourages participation and enhances quality of life
Contribute feedback to improve programs and participate in risk management and continuous quality improvement activities
Build strong and collaborative relationships with your team to deliver positive outcomes for residents

About you
Certificate IV in Leisure and Health (or equivalent) or Certificate III in Individual Support with demonstrated experience in the leisure and health field or relevant experience in leisure and health service delivery.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully
Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including English proficiency
Competent computer skills, including basic documentation and use of digital tools
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
A sound understanding of aged care and the principles guiding this sector

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.
We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.
We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
