Pay Rate Range $9.20-$10

This is a complex professional work involving competent client care to substance use abusers.

Employees in this class perform routine professional substance use disorder treatment independently after initial training and work under closer supervision on a variety of more complex developmental assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct screening and intakes of potential program participants using clinical tools and assessments.
  • Develops treatment plans to provide counseling in facilitating client goals for physical and psychological needs; participates in individual, group and family counseling; and provides and implements continuing care for discharged clients.
  • Facilitate Psycho-Educational groups using CBT approach.
  • Assists clients in on-going evaluation and coordination with total treatment plan; assists in “de-escalating” or controlling client in volatile situations.
  • Documents and reports information relevant to treatment; maintains overall records of clients’ progress in case file on all written and assigned work, and case supervision is provided on a regular basis using LRC’s Electronic Health Record,
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings such as treatment team, in-service training, and business meetings; participates in program development and assists in client education programs.
  • Assists in crisis interventions, including alcohol and other drug withdrawal and suicide risk management; participates in the development and presentation of substance abuse education programs, as assigned.
  • Must maintain a lifestyle of sobriety from illicit drugs.
  • Must be able to drug test clients when required.
  • Supports and works with Disaster Response Programs as directed by the Director of Emergency Disaster Services, or Corps Officers and is a member of the Disaster Response Team.
  • May be assigned tasks and responsibilities at or for any Salvation Army unit on Guam or Micronesia.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in the treatment of substance use disorder.
  • Ability to learn and apply substance use treatment casework principles and practices.
  • Ability to develop substance use casework skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures pertaining to substance use disorder casework skills.
  • Ability to interview and prepare treatment plans for clients with substance use disorder.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare accurate case records and statistical reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; travelling by various means, including aircraft.

SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelors’ degree in Human Services or closely related field with two year’s work experience or four years’ work experience in human services or substance use disorder treatment work, and certification in IC&RC (Alcohol & Drug Counselor, or Advance Alcohol & Drug Counselor).
  • A strong ability to comprehend and follow rules and procedures.
  • Able to recognize and confront addictive behavioral characteristics in clients.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the minimum knowledge, abilities and skills.
