Your opportunity

Join Mission Australia as a Recovery Case Worker, within our Community Living Services (CLS), where culture, community and connection are at the centre of recovery.

CLS supports people living with mental health challenges to build independence, strengthen daily living skills and reconnect with their communities through flexible, person-centred support.

This is a unique opportunity for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to walk alongside participants on their recovery journey, drawing on cultural knowledge, lived understanding and strong community ties to deliver culturally safe, strengths-based support.

In this role, you will help individuals achieve meaningful outcomes while contributing to a service that recognises and values the resilience, identity and holistic wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

Applicants for this position must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide person-centred, recovery-oriented case management that supports clients to achieve their individual goals and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Develop, implement and regularly review holistic, strengths-based case plans in collaboration with clients.
  • Deliver culturally safe support that recognises and responds to the strengths, needs and experiences of Aboriginal people and communities.
  • Conduct client intake, assessments and ongoing monitoring of progress, adjusting supports as needs change.
  • Support clients with daily living activities and build their capacity for independent living.
  • Deliver outreach services and assist clients to access and engage with relevant community, health and support services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders and local Aboriginal communities.
  • Complete accurate documentation, reporting and administrative tasks to support service delivery and compliance requirements.

Requirements for success

  • Relevant qualification (Associate Diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in community services or a related field).
  • A current valid Working with Children Check and Drivers Licence
  • Experience working in mental health and/or community services.
  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented practice, mental health systems, and psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Ability to take a positive, person-centred approach with a genuine belief in people’s capacity for growth and recovery.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external partnerships.
  • Strong written, administrative and digital literacy skills, including use of client systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity while maintaining professionalism and clear boundaries.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
