Duties and Responsibilities

The Compliance Officer position provides operational support to the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Ignition Interlock Device (IID) sections and the licensed DUI programs. Responsibilities include handling all DUI and IID inquiries from internal and external customers related to in and out-of-state DUI course/treatment enrollments and completions via phone, fax and/or email; ensuring that customers’ driver records are updated with the correct information; collecting, compiling and submitting end-of-month statistics for the DUI & IID sections; creating and maintaining DUI program files for the section staff; and receiving change notices from the DUI programs and notifying staff of the change. We are looking for applicants who have excellent communication skills; the ability to effectively manage time and multi-task; attention to detail; and experience in interpreting state and federal laws, particularly regarding DUI and or IID issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of DUI and IID related laws, statutes and rules.
  • Knowledge of document filing and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to draft correspondence.
  • Ability to proofread.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Skill in data collection and data entry into driver license databases.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to effectively manage time.
  • Skill in providing Customer Service by phone, fax and email.
  • Skill in creating and tracking files.
  • Skill in interpreting and implementing laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to remain adaptive.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to operate printers, fax machines, speaker phones and a multi-line phone system.
  • Skill and ability operating departmental systems (Motorist Maintenance, Expert, Florida Driver License Information System (FDLIS) and Capture).
  • Ability to read, write and speak Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Providing customer service.
  • Using departmental databases such as Florida Driver License Information System (FDLIS), Capture or Motorist Maintenance
  • Operating office equipment to include a multi-line telephone, copier and scanner.
  • Reviewing and verifying information, and performing research or investigating.
  • Interpreting and applying rules, regulations, laws, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in a DUI and/or IID program area.
  • Performing data entry, drafting correspondence such as letters, memorandums and/or emails.
  • Maintaining files and/or recordkeeping.

General Information

  • The state of Florida hires only U.S. citizens and lawfully authorized alien workers. All selected applicants are required to provide identification and either proof of U.S. citizenship or proof of authorization to work in the U.S. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) does not participate in employment sponsorship for work visa status (e.g., H-1B) or for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT, STEM OPT).
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation
  • Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
  • In accordance with Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, male applicants who were required to register with the Selective Service System must provide proof of registration or documentation verifying exemption status during the hiring process.
  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
