Responsible for monitoring recertification activities for Housing Choice Voucher Program participants. Provides housing counseling services to Housing Choice Voucher Program participants.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Directly responsible to the Recertification Officer Supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Counsels Housing Choice Voucher Program participants.
Cooperates with Social Service organizations, etc., regarding resident income and obtains information needed to complete recertifications.
Completes recertifications and notifies participants/landlords of any rent changes, by mail.
Updates client demographics with regard to changes of income and/or family composition. Conducts briefing sessions for relocations to explain program requirements and objectives to participants.
Acts as intermediary between clients and landlords in disputes and prepares written reports on results for client files.
Performs online reexaminations and assists tenants with completing their online reexaminations as needed.
Changes passwords and updates online system as needed.
Notes the tenant file with any interaction with the tenant.
Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent or a combination of education and work experience. Appropriate clerical, typing, ten key and computer experience. Familiarity and experience with basic computer principles and usage. Ability to understand and apply the governing policies and procedures as implemented by management. Ability to work independently, have a good sense of priorities, and be willing to use initiative. Ability to positively meet and work with landlords, tenants, the public, and the disadvantaged. Ability to understand and interpret Federal regulations and use effective management tools in organizing and controlling the functions, personnel and material resources of the department. Ability to retain proprietary information as confidential. Ability to comply with Authority attendance policies.
DESIRED:
Previous employment as a counselor, social worker, or other position involving counseling and guidance with moderate and low income families.
PHYSICAL:
Ability to read and write correspondence, read and post ledgers, and work with computerized reports, code books, plans, etc. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others by telephone and in person. Physical range of motion and coordination for extensive filing and work with client files. All physical requirements are evaluated based on the ability to perform with or without reasonable accommodations under the ADA.
