Under the leadership of the Office Manager, The Receptionist plays a vital role in maintaining smooth operational workflow by providing exceptional customer service to both patients and visitors. This position is responsible for greeting and checking in patients, ensuring complete and accurate registration through the office’s electronic medical record system, and verifying demographic and insurance information. The Receptionist also handles payment collection, including co-pays and patient balances, and ensures proper billing procedures are followed. Additional duties include assisting with patient triage, maintaining a clean and organized waiting area, and supporting clinical staff with various administrative tasks. The Receptionist is a key point of contact for patients, effectively communicating appointment details, delays, and other office-related matters.
Experience
The ideal candidate for this position will have strong computer skills, including the ability to type 45+ words per minute, with a general understanding of basic computer systems. EMR experience is preferred but not required, and familiarity with Microsoft applications is an asset. The candidate must be computer literate and demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Excellent telephone communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to perform basic mathematical functions, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
A working knowledge of medical terminology is a plus, as is familiarity with efficient filing systems and office equipment. The candidate should be able to adapt to shifting priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks in a conscientious and efficient manner. The ability to remain organized and effective under changing circumstances is essential for success in this role.
Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two year college degree, and/or two years office or related experience.
