Job Description

Summary

The Receiving Chemist I is responsible for receiving, sampling, coding, consolidating, and shipping hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials in accordance with company, state, federal, and environmental regulations. This role supports facility operations through waste analysis, inventory management, chemical handling, and maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced industrial setting.


Responsibilities

  • Receive, open, sample, and analyze incoming drums and lab packs in accordance with facility Waste Analysis Plans (WAP) and company procedures
  • Code and process incoming waste materials for disposal, transportation, and billing purposes using WIN system and barcode tracking
  • Perform chemical consolidation, repacking, and bulking activities while maintaining proper safety procedures
  • Stage and prepare outbound shipments in accordance with DOT/TDG and environmental regulations
  • Maintain inventory levels, organize storage areas, and verify incoming shipments against manifests and paperwork
  • Operate forklifts and other facility equipment safely while performing daily inspections
  • Calibrate and operate laboratory equipment for basic chemical analysis
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all OSHA and Clean Harbors Health & Safety policies
  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately and timely
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs


Qualifications

  • 2 years of college coursework or specialized training in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
  • 0–3 years of related experience preferred
  • 24-Hour OSHA Training required
  • Forklift training required
  • Strong understanding of chemistry, chemical testing, and hazardous waste handling
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and work well within a team environment
  • Proficient in Windows-based applications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, operate forklifts, and work in physically demanding conditions
