Total Hours per Week: 27.75
Schedule: 7:00am - 9:00am and 2:45pm - 6:00 pm
Non RECE: $26.35 per hour
RECE: $28.00 per hour
As a Before and After School Educator, your primary responsibility is to be present for children and their families while developing and implementing programs that meet their developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise outdoor and indoor activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care.
Duties vary by centre, but your role always includes supporting children, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming and well-organized environment.
Key Responsibilities:Greet children and families with warmth and professionalismSupport children as they transition from home to program, including self-regulation and social engagementEngage children in meaningful activities using a programming cart of materialsProvide morning snacks, ensuring children wash hands and eat safelyHelp children tidy up and prepare for their school day, including outdoor play as appropriateSet up and facilitate activities aligned with How Does Learning Happen?Supervise snack and ensure all children eat safelyProvide indoor and outdoor play opportunities and support children’s interestsMonitor children’s behaviour, offering guidance and support as needed
QualificationsEarly Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and member in good standing with the College of ECEs OR educational requirements to obtain Director’s Approval for working alone with childrenRelated experience in a childcare settingDemonstrated knowledge and working ability to effectively interact with children requiring behavioural guidanceDemonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?Experience in program planning and implementation for JK/SK and school-aged childrenExcellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsFlexibility to adapt to a variety of responsibilities and schedulesPassion for supporting children, families, and colleagues in a positive, team-focused environmentCertifications: Standard First Aid with CPR Level CSatisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police CheckProof of up-to-date immunizations (TB, Tetanus, MMR)

Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton is a non-profit corporation, in operation since 1988 and administered by a community-based Board of Directors. Our Board Members include Hamilton Wentworth District School Board Trustees and staff, as well as members of the community who have a keen interest in early learning and childcare. We operate full-day early learning and child care centres, as well as extended day programs before and after school in the Greater Hamilton Area.
