The position does not independently manage BIM/VDC projects, facilitate trade coordination, or establish BIM/VDC standards and workflows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reality-Capture Field Support:
- Assist the Reality Capture Coordinator with 3D laser scanning, 360-degree photography, thermal imaging, drone operations, photographic documentation, and other reality-capture assignments.
- Prepare reality-capture equipment for field use, including checking batteries, storage media, accessories, tripods, cases, and related equipment.
- Follow capture plans, field procedures, safety requirements, file-naming standards, and project-specific instructions established by the Reality Capture Coordinator.
- Operate approved reality-capture equipment after completing required training and demonstrating proficiency.
- Maintain field notes, scan logs, equipment records, photographs, and other documentation needed to support data processing and delivery.
- Assist with identifying access limitations, areas that were not captured, equipment concerns, or other conditions that may affect the completeness of an assignment.
- Support the installation, adjustment, maintenance, and documentation of construction jobsite cameras.
- Assist with drone operations as a visual observer or other supporting crew member, and perform pilot responsibilities when properly trained, certified, and authorized.
- After demonstrating competency, complete routine capture assignments independently when assigned by the Reality Capture Coordinator.
- Provide backup field coverage when the Reality Capture Coordinator is unavailable or when project workload requires additional support.
Data Processing and Documentation:
- Transfer, upload, organize, name, and store scan data, photographs, video, field notes, and other project information according to established BIM/VDC standards.
- Perform basic point-cloud registration, scan processing, image processing, and data preparation under the direction of the Reality Capture Coordinator.
- Conduct an initial review of captured data to identify apparent gaps, incomplete areas, alignment concerns, or processing errors.
- Communicate potential data-quality concerns to the Reality Capture Coordinator for further review and direction.
- Prepare draft data packages, reports, images, drawings, and other supporting materials for review.
- Assist with publishing or transferring approved reality-capture data to internal project teams and designated platforms.
BIM/VDC Production Support:
When assigned by the BIM/VDC Group Manager or a BIM/VDC Specialist:
- Maintain organized project folders, equipment records, capture logs, and other related documentation.
- Report hardware or software defects to the Reality Capture Coordinator or BIM/VDC Group Manager.
- Assist with preparing information needed for equipment service or vendor support requests.
- Protect project data and equipment in accordance with company policies and established procedures.
- Assist with downloading, updating, and organizing project models and related files.
- Perform routine model exports, file conversions, and document preparation using established settings and procedures.
- Assist with preparing Navisworks files, CAD exports, PDFs, images, and other project deliverables.
- Document identified coordination issues and assist with entering or updating issue information in approved project platforms.
- Assist with preparing meeting notes, screenshots, reports, and other coordination documentation.
- Provide basic graphical support for site logistics, phasing plans, presentations, and project planning materials.
- Assist with basic model quantity takeoffs and other project-information requests under the direction of a BIM/VDC Specialist.
- Follow established BIM/VDC templates, file structures, naming standards, and workflows.
- Communicate questions, inconsistencies, and potential model concerns to the assigned BIM/VDC Specialist.
- Provide production support without independently leading coordination meetings, managing trade partners, or making project-level coordination decisions.
Training and Professional Development:
- Participate in internal and external training related to reality capture, drones, construction technology, BIM/VDC software, and jobsite safety.
- Develop proficiency with the reality-capture hardware and software supported by the BIM/VDC team.
- Complete applicable equipment, software, safety, and drone certifications within the timeframes established by team leadership.
- Maintain required certifications and participate in recurring training as assigned.
- Develop a basic understanding of construction documents, building systems, construction sequencing, and AEC workflows.
- Stay informed about updates to the hardware and software used in assigned work.
