Job Summary

Responsible for the strategic leadership, governance, and optimization of the Transmission and Telecom Geographic Information System (GIS) and associated asset data. Leads the application of GIS technologies to enhance business processes, improve data quality, and support operational decision-making. Oversees the integration of data from multiple enterprise systems and the transformation of that data into actionable information that supports the planning, operation, reliability, and maintenance of AEP's Transmission and Telecommunications infrastructure.

Job Description

What You'll do:

• Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Transmission and Telecom management regarding the effective use of GIS technologies, spatial data, and analytics to improve business processes, operational efficiency, and asset management practices.
• Develop and execute GIS data strategies that ensure the accuracy, accessibility, security, and effective delivery of GIS data and services while minimizing operational and compliance risks.
• Lead the integration of GIS capabilities into daily business operations, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, automate processes, and improve organizational performance through the use of spatial technologies.
• Direct enterprise data integration initiatives by leveraging GIS and related technologies to combine information from multiple systems, creating centralized and reliable data resources that support informed decision-making across all levels of the organization.
• Communicate complex technical concepts and business impacts effectively to executives, operational leaders, and stakeholders, translating GIS and data management issues into actionable business insights.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and GIS innovations to determine their potential impact on Transmission and Telecom operations, organizational processes, customer service, and workforce effectiveness.
• Promote safe excavation and damage prevention programs by partnering with internal stakeholders, contractors, and external agencies to support safe digging practices, utility protection initiatives, regulatory compliance, and the efficient management of locate requests.
• Establish and maintain data governance standards that ensure GIS and asset information remains accurate, consistent, and aligned with evolving business and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and develop GIS personnel and resources, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
• Support Transmission and Telecom reliability initiatives through the delivery of high-quality spatial data, analytics, and visualization tools that enhance situational awareness, asset management, outage response, and long-term infrastructure planning.

What We're Looking For

Education requirements are listed below:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering or GIS mapping or

Associate degree in related discipline and 2 years of experience in a GIS related field or

High school diploma and 4 years' experience in a GIS related field.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Minimum of 12 years' experience in Transmission and/or Telecom related activities in addition to experience listed above including 5 years supervisory/management experience.

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Valid state driver's license.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demand level is Sedentary

1) Travel required

2) Strong organizational and communications skills

3) Some overtime required

4) Ability to field review distribution facilities

Compensation Range:

$136,539.00 - $177,503.00

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
