Position Description
To acquire and schedule generation and transmission resources in order to meet forecasted next-hour retail and wholesale demand. To represent the company in negotiations with representatives of other power marketing entities regarding bulk power transactions, including amount, price and other contract terms.
Position-Related Responsibilities
- Forecasts load and develops plan to fulfill load requirements using available TEP and market generating resources.
- Determines the scheduling of electrical generation required to meet demand load requirements.
- Responsible for buying and selling energy on a real-time basis to maximize profitability.
- Optimizes scheduling of TEP generating resources and utilizes sales, purchases and banking of power and energy with other entities in a way that maximizes economy and reliability.
- Negotiates with representatives of other power marketing entities for the sale or purchase of hourly power, including amount, price and other contract terms.
- Schedules power transactions with TEP generation control supervisors.
- Acquires and schedules transmission service with TEP transmission control supervisors and other transmission providers.
- Interacts with regional utility companies to keep abreast of inter-utility issues and to assess short-term market conditions.
- Interprets contract provisions with respect to rate, billing, power scheduling, and other matters of performance under the terms of contracts, as required.
- Maintains an awareness and understanding of applicable Federal and State regulations.
- This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of the utility business.
- Working knowledge of economic and technical principles of electrical generation and transmission systems.
- Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and strong quantitative, analytical, and computer skills.
- Position entails shift work. Ability to be available at all hours whether in office or remotely due to nature of shift work.
Real Time Energy I
- Minimum 1 year utility or equivalent combination of education and experience. Power or related energy trading experience preferred.
- Ability to work with spreadsheets and various electronic platforms.
- Ability to comprehend and execute basic energy contracts.
Real Time Energy Trader II
- 3 years utility or power marketing experience, 1 year trading experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
- Ability to comprehend and execute basic energy contracts.
