Unique to Mondelez international, Ernest Jackson has a locally managed Research and Development function whose goal is to: Develop the right healthcare products to meet the needs of the consumer and enable a competitive edge for the business.
In this role you will lead and guide a dedicated team of R&D scientists, technicians and admin staff in the execution of specific research and development projects. This role focuses on the tactical implementation of project plans, ensuring timely delivery of technical milestones, upholding quality standards, and fostering the growth and development of individual team members, all while contributing to the successful innovation pipeline of the organisation.
How you will contribute
Team Leadership - This role involves the line management of a number of technical staff including development scientists, packaging technologists and admin staff. Includes performance management and gate keeping of R&D resource to align with business priorities.
Technical Leadership- The role develops strong relationships within function and cross functionally. Acts as a technological resource or as an expert in own technical /scientific area. Leads RCA's and issue resolution. Role models positive and proactive approach to change within the business.
Training, coaching and mentorship- As team leader of R&D, this role will be expected to help build R&D capability through training, coaching and mentoring others. This will involve progession identification, development of technical expertise and compliance/HSE/regulatory standards and practices.
Delivery- As team leader of an efficient development team you will be expected to:
Deliver results - balancing team's time to align with required business outputs
Provide decision making on key technical and resource decisions
Delegate for group leader if required
Risk Management-As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to:
Role model best practice in strategic risk taking
Effectively analyse, communicate and advise the business on risk
Make clear recommendations which take risk into consideration but allow for decisive business action and progress
Communication- Excel in communications to a wide variety of stakeholders within and outside of R&D, ensuring:
verbal and written communication provides the clarity and levels of detail required for the situation and audience.
use your abilities and experience to communicate with clarity and understand if the right message has been received,
coach others in delivering a message with the right amount of detail and ensuring the key and important points have been clearly conveyed.
Continuous development and knowledge- Ensure you are up to date with the Key nutritional and licensed medicine landscape themes. Ensure you highlight and discuss development needs and opportunities with your line manager, to keep your knowledge current and capabilities fit for future needs.
Ensures that all activities are performed in accordance with company Health, Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures.
Knows the ethical and legal compliance responsibilities of the position; raises questions and concerns when faced with an ethical or compliance issue; applies integrity in all aspects of professional conduct.
What you will bring
Degree & relevant experience - Bachelors in relevant scientific discipline with proven people management track record within a technical team.
Product Development experience and expertise: experience of delivering product developments from concept to marketplace, to meet the requirements of the whole supply chain.
People leadership skills
Technical skills and knowledge, continuous learning and improvement mindset including application of statistical analysis to datasets
Effectively influencing senior-level and cross-functional stakeholders verbally and in writing, including writing technical report conclusions
Coaching and mentoring others
Good working knowledge of food and pharmaceutical regulatory environments (preferred)
Project Management Process Knowledge (preferred)
Process development experience and expertise: experience of introducing new or improved process including equipment trials and scale up challenges (preferred)
