A Day in the Life:

We’re currently looking for a Project Engineer to join our Materials Engineering team in Farmington Hills, MI to develop high quality, cost effective on time raw material solutions for Nissan vehicles.

This role will be responsible for developing various materials for body Structures, Chassis and Powertrain applications, including but not limited to ferrous and nonferrous metals, functional/anticorrosion surface treatments, and others used in the production of automobile parts. In addition, the selected applicant will be responsible for generating, developing and implementing novel ideas that contribute to vehicle quality improvement, cost reduction and sustainability. Therefore, the role will require cross functional coordination with Suppliers, Manufacturing Plants, Design Engineers and Purchasing to achieve company KPI’s (Quality, Cost, Schedule).

Job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Material qualification activities using company engineering standards (incl. supplier visit)
  • Establish test plan, perform or direct testing using in-house or out-source resources, write technical reports to communicate the progress or evaluation judgment
  • Coordinate material and design changes with related function, advise appropriate specification of material in the design release process to optimize QCT per project milestone
  • Identify and define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions
  • Value Optimization (cost reduction) activity management
  • Research US local material technologies and create new product specification
  • Work independently within a fixed schedule; domestic and international travel as required
  • Global collaborations with Nissan Japan and other regional engineering counterpart.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering, or related field; 3 years of experience in related field, or combination of advanced degree, co-op/internship and experience required.
  • Practical experience with all aspect of materials testing/analyzing, including but not limited to: testing methods and equipment, production and conversion/forming processes, formulations, applications, etc. desired
  • Experience with metal part manufacturing processes such as Stamping, Casting, Machining, Drawing, and respective quality control measures desirable
  • Direct experience with problem analysis and root cause investigation, such as FTA, and product development and failure prevention, such as FMEA, desired
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills required; Experience working in a multicultural environment desired
  • Ability to travel and work overtime may be required
