Hitachi Energy is seeking a Research and Development Engineer for the Business Unit Transformers to join our innovative and forward-thinking team. In this role, you will be a key contributor to developing cutting-edge energy technologies. You will address complex technical challenges, implement innovative ideas, and help bring new products to market. How you’ll make an impact

  • Demonstrate strong technical expertise by executing diverse engineering tasks within R&D projects, applying independent problem solving and contributing to scientific and technical discussions.
  • Develop, validate, and improve transformer technologies and cost optimization solutions through feasibility studies, simulations, prototyping, and testing.
  • Translate business drivers into technical decisions by analysing cost drivers, optimizing materials and processes, and contributing to impactful project outcomes.
  • Design and communicate robust mechanical solutions using CAD, drawings, and specifications ensuring alignment with product requirements.
  • Act as an effective R&D project member or sub-project leader, coordinating activities to meet targets in time, cost, and quality while leveraging R&D processes and tools.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain teams, suppliers, and external partners to ensure integrated product development and innovation.
  • Maintain, develop, and apply engineering standards, tools, and best practices, ensuring compliance with internal guidelines, as well as safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Document, share, and promote technical knowledge while contributing to engineering networks, supporting manufacturing, identifying risks (including IP), and driving continuous improvement.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with Min 5 years of experience in research and development in a business environment, preferably in the transformer or heavy equipment industry.
  • Solid understanding of the standard body of knowledge in the transformer field and solid technical proficiency in 3D modeling (CREO / PLM)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, assembly) with focus on cost, quality and performance.
  • Ability to effectively use external and internal standards and regulations.
  • Awareness of intellectual property considerations in the research and development process.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
